I've been very happy with Unique and will continue to use it for my 38 spec, 357 mag, 45 ACP, and 44 mags. I just picked up a Dan Wesson 445 supermag.

I would like some suggestions on a good powder to load up some beefy 445 supermag loads and the occasional extra spicy 44 mag loads for my Redhawk. I'll probably end up eventually picking up a 300+ grain mold but for now I'm using 255 grain boolits.

Tonight I shot some 240 grain boolits under 10.5 grains of Unique and it was pretty mild. (44's)

Top end loads used Win 680 byt that is discontinued. AA1680 is almost identical and is the preferred powder for heavy loads. I have a DW 445 10" Vent rib Heavy and top end 300 gr loads will definately wake you up.

Yup, I remember switching from 680 to 1680 when the former was discontinued, in my 8" 7445 DW

another for the aa-1680.
i have had good accuracy with h-4227 and 300 gr jaxketed also, but not over long strings.
and h-110 has done very well also.
i have 9 lbs of aa-1680,less than a half pound of 4227 and about 1-1/2 lbs of h-110 around for the 357/375/445 mags if that says anything.

680/1680 gets my vote too.

The powder I'd recommend is: talcum.

Put a generous amount in your skivvies so you won't get friction burns on your butt with every shot.

(Seriously, why anybody would want to shoot such a punishing thing is beyond me, but to each his own.)

I shot 4227 and 5744 in my 445DW using 295gr boolits

with the ported bbl, the heavier boolits and faster speeds actually makes mine tamer to shoot.

Rocky, I am a woos for recoil, but I don't have any problem with my big heavy DW .445 10"er. Hogue rubber grips. Rubber grips are the answer (as far as your hand is concerned) for recoil (won't save your forehead though). I can take a .44 mag with wooden grips. I'd guess that the 500 S&W is another matter, and maybe the .460, 475s, 480, etc. too. .454 Casuul starts to be a bruiser with full house loads. 1680 plus 1, MP300 might work well.

Rocky! because you can! hahahaha.

Seriously, I find it worse than my 14" 45/70 Contender, so I don't load it up very often. On another forum a guy made a 338 Edge (300 RUM full length neced to 338) Xp-100 pistol. I have a 338 Edge in a 700 Long Range configuration (14 lbs) I can't imagine firing that in a pistol configuration, repeat your quote.:bigsmyl2:

The heaviest thing I've ever shot was a Desert Eagle in 50AE, how does it compare to that? I didn't find the DE was as bad as people say they are. I only shot it with factory ammo, as somebody broke into my house, and decided they needed it more than I did back before I was casting lead. :( On a good note (sort of), at the time (Dec 2009) 6 guns were stolen, and just recently the police have recovered one of them! Of course it would have to be the cheapest, and the one I cared about the least, that was recovered, but at least they got it, and a badguy at the same time! Now I just need to wait for them to prosecute the SOB before I can get it back.
