View Full Version : A 9mm bore slugs .3582?

It's a Hi Point 995, just my junk truck gun, but I was thinking of runing some cast through it, so I slugged the barrel using a sinker and the slug mic at .358.2 the first time and that did'nt sound right. So I did it again this time with a pure lead core that I had made. It slugged at 357.7. Thats still seems way to big for a 9mm. My pistol slugs at .3555. I checked the mic it seems ok. So now what do I do? Should I just not cast for this or get a really big mould?

Thanks Nick

Most 9mm molds will cast that large.
Try them unsized.

sounds right to me.
i use a 358 125 gr rnfp in my 9mm's that's made for the 38 special.

Most of my 9mm bullets I used to buy were .38's just to get them big enough. When you get custom molds made, you can get them to drop bigger.

Same with my Browning Hi Power, barrell slugs out at 357+ have been putting .38s down it for years.

Your chamber may be so tight that it will not chamber a cartridge loaded with a .3582" bullet. Load a dummy round with an appropriate sized bullet, and see if it will chamber.

I have a Browning HiPower that has a chamber that will not accept cartridges loaded with bullets larger than about .356". It gets jacketed only.

My Berettas and Walthers all seem to have groove diameters of about .358".

Thanks everyone
Everbody here has said that the 9mm were kind of picky now I can see why

9mm groove diameters are all over the map. .3582 is not unusual at all, but is near the
upper end of "normal". You want .359 diam or more to get good results. How deep are the
grooves? Some 9mm bbls have very, very shallow grooves and knowing that the HighPoint is a
bargain priced gun, it may be one of these. Very shallow grooves can sometimes require a bit
harder boolit than normal grooves.

bill has good advice as usual.
grab a case that has been fired from this gun and measure inside the case mouth.
this will give you an idea of how big of a boolit you will be able to chamber.
