Does anyone know the actual alloy of factory shotgun slugs. They are a possible source of lead in my area, large and easy to see laying on the ground at the range. I know they are pretty soft but does anyone know if they have any tin or antimony, or should they be treated as pure lead? Thanks in advance.

Factory Forster slugs are swaged. That means they must be very close to pure lead or they would be too hard to swage. You might run into a few home cast or specialty slugs, but I doubt that you would find enough of those to affect your alloy.

they're usually almost pure lead.

.22 bullets and most jacketed bullet cores are swaged from lead wire that's got about 3/4% antimony in it. I doubt the factories would buy a special alloy just for their standard slugs. That stuff's pretty soft after working it.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I will need to add some tin if I want to try using them or trade them to muzzleloader friends.

Smelt them into ingots and you will come out ahead on trade. Black powder people are always looking for soft lead.
