Rain drops precluded my smelting today also.
Instead I took 3 Grand Kids, and their Mothers, to a Pottery show. I didn't know what to expect but, we were all pleasantly surprised.
I had no idea there were so many local pot throwers.
The range of sizes was from pocket size to taller than I used to be. LOL
The face jugs were comical, until I saw the prices. You could buy very, very nice guns for less. It's quite an art to take a lump of mud and turn it into such useful things of beauty.
Oh well I'll just wait until Tuesday to smelt. There's always another day, and if not it wont matter.
I suggest that the time I spent with the Kids is, far more important.

looks line a fine day to me!

i smelted up a bucket of WW that i had just finished sorting through today.
about 1/4 of the bucket was zinc or steel.

finished with some left in the pot for next time, and 80# of finished ingots. WooHoo!

Just a few from today.

I gotta get me some of those little mini loaf pans. I been making muffin ingots for eons and I really prefer stacking the rectangular ones. Just too cheap to buy real ingot molds in the quantity I'd like to pour at one time.

i need a few more things. i've been pouring ingots with a 1# ladle. way too slow.
i also only have one muffin ingot pan. i need to find some more and get a big ol ladle from work so i can pour ingots a little faster.

i like the idea of the stackable ingots too. save some space. though the jumble i have makes it looks like i have more than i do. i guess thats a good thing. it keeps me content for at least a few days longer than normal

Corn stick muffin molds, cast iron made in USA, $11 at Walmart. Order off the net, have pick up
at your store: no postage costs. Last a life time and easy to use. Lead corn sticks easy to pick up and add to the pot.

Not very pretty but I use a tin can and a pair of vise grips.

i wondered about something like that. i figured that the poly lining on the inside of the can would cause trouble.
i'll have to see what i have laying around

My helper doesn't help much when it comes to smelting.

But he does run me into the ground when it comes to hunting.
