Hello, everyone. I have a Steve Brooks Postell style single cavity that drops a 350gr., .409 dia. from 30-1 lead-tin alloy. This is perfect for a .40-70 Remington rolling block I intend to use B.P. loads in. I might be getting another rifle in future with a nominal groove dia. of .411 to .412 (won't know for sure of course until I can slug it).
Since I will be using only smokeless in the new rifle, I was wondering if bullet dia. could be increased .003" by either alloying or by cranking up the pot temp.?
Will probably be using harder alloy anyway..but don't really want straight Lino. Thanks!

no.
even lino wouldn't quite get you there, .002 maybe.
and i ain't touching the mold size vs's heat thing.
plan on measuring stuff and getting a new mold, you'll be glad you did.

Hotter means smaller but if temps are kept right, antimony might gain .001" to .002" after aging a week or so.
The lowest temps that fill a mold make the largest boolits.
It is hard to explain that the half cavity is at the edge, not a hole in the center of a block.

You can beagle that mold and get you there.
