I just got ( dumpster diving) about 40 lb of wax from the wax rings plumbers use to seal the Toilet.

Anyone have a clue what kind of wax this is ?
Has anyone used this type of wax to make a lube ?

I am hoping to make a cheap lube for my pistol .
Nothing fancy ,any ideas ?

Go to the site, cast boolits, and there are all kinds of lubes given.
I used to use Johnson's carnuba paste floor wax, don't know if it is still in the grocery stores, but it did a good job 40+ years ago.

Depends how old the toilet seals are. About 20 years ago, they were made of beeswax, but I've heard that they are now made of parafin.

The seals were new .
The seals ( 3 cases of them) were left in a black van for 3 days in the companys parking lot ,and we had Mid 90's temps every day.

The wax feels like bees wax ,but most likly it's not .
It is soft enough to run thru the sizer
Just have to do some testing .

THANKS

Well, since they are new (unused) smell them. Beeswax has a very distinctive odor

It appears ok to eat 'em in small quantities, but I’d keep 'em outta my lube.

johnch,

maybe the stuff is something similar to paraffin? Mix it with roughly equal parts of vaseline if it is too stiff, and a squirt of STP Oil Treatment and you will end up with Darr´s lube, discussed just recently on another post.

I looked at the box again ,Wolverine Brass brand
Lots of BLAA BLAA and pure petroleum wax, will not harden.

I mixed up a small batch of .
4 oz of the wax
1 oz vasaline
and 1/2 oz of Molly ( I can get it from a local place that mixs it in grease)and makes the lube nice and black

I melted the wax , added the molly and then added the vasaline .
If it is to hard I will add more vasaline , but the wax is not that hard to start with.
I weighed out everything so if it works good I can make more exactly like the first batch.
Sunday I plan on lubing a few bullets and testing with a proven load.

Thanks for the help
