Cast work good for 6mm?

My dad and brother want me to start reloading 6mm rifle rounds for them. I was wondering if this is a good candidate for cast boolits? If so any recommendations on what design to use?

I tried 22 cal and 7mm
and following the advice of one of the finer mold makers
decided that my cast efforts were better served in larger
bore sizes....you loose to much speed when you use cast and the 243
the 243 is a fast hombre or meant to be fast

I have had great groups with the RCBS 95 fp and 12 gr 2400. 1 1/2" @ 100 yards are common on a no wind day.

Hello, lts70. Having worked so long with .22 cast bullets..I found the 6mm to be alot of fun!
Just because a cartridge is designed for high velocity, doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable and accurate at cast-bullet velocities. I shoot cast in an 1895 Winchester-Lee straight-pull sporter.
I am using Ideal 245498 100gr. G.C. using TrailBoss. the sights are open buckhorn rear & german silver blade front. At 50yds, groups are 3/4" and shooting to sights. At 100yd, 1 1/4" groupings. Recoil is very light.

I recently bought an old take off barrel from a Rem 722 in caliber 244 Remington with 12 in twist. It appears to have decent amount rifling left. I have not yet had a chance to mount on an action.

I have a Lyman 245496 mold (84gr cg) and a 77 gr NOE group buy mold. Any recomendation for these boolits and the 6mm Rem (aka 244 Rem) case. Should the in in 12 twist help in accuracy. Any recomendation would be appreciated.

My 243 Ackley Imp. is a favorite of mine to cast for and shoot targets at 200 yards and under.

The 243 AI has slightly more case capacity than the 6mm Rem. 11.0 grains of Unique sends the Lyman 84gr Loverin into groups under an inch at 100 yards. It’s a no fuss load at around 1,850fps. With the Saeco 87gr over 18.0 grains Rx7 and my 26” fairly new barrel I get 2,040 fps over the Chrony. E.S. in single digits and groups between 1.0” and 0.9” at 100 yards. Going up 0.8 grains of powder accuracy goes to 1.9” due to the higher velocity and dropping 0.8 grains the E.S. goes up yielding the vertical dispersion. Going to try some Alliant 2400 since I think that powder will easily give me all the velocity the bullet will stand. Without being so sensitive. Charge weights between 13 to 14 grains of 2400 is where I’ll look.

With the 11.0 grains of Unique there is more pressure than the Rx7 load. Enough to seal the cases avoiding the black soot and the barrel is clear after a long string of fire. Unique can be a little dirty in low pressure hand gun rounds but in this rifle load there seams to be enough pressure for a very clean burn. Another nice thing about the 11gr charge is you can shoot long strings of fire with very little barrel heat-up. Very high fun factor.

I picked up a Lyman 90 gr 6mm mold at a gun show last year and tried them in my Rem 600 using 16 gr of 4759 for an MV of 1900. My first group out of the gate was 2/3" at 80 yards. It was probably an accident because since then my groups have been hovering around 1-1/4" at 100 yds. Still very nice though
