Around 10-15 years ago, my father and I bought quite a few coffee cans full of cast and unsized 357 bullets at a local gunshop on the consignment table. I think we paid $5.00 a can which was a great deal, even then. I still have two cans of the 358429's, but I've never loaded any of them for 38's or 357's.

How many of you shoot this bullet? I've only loaded 148 gn. wadcutters and 158 gn. SWC's for my 357's, so I'd appreciate any suggestions. I understand that they won't chamber in my S&W 28 in mag brass, but they should work in my 586 and 686 in special or mag brass, unless I'm mistaken. Since I have them, I want to go ahead and shoot them. If I like them, I'll order a mold.

I load them in 357 brass with 7 grains Unique for a mid-range load out of my 686. I put them in 38 special brass with 12 grains of 2400 in the same revolver for what is close to the old 38/44 load. Both loads are quite accurate and I don't own any other 38 special revolvers that they might find their way into. My bullets are also purchased, wish I owned a two hole mold.

The 358429 is a classic design that works very well, especially for hunting. One of my hunting friends uses the ones I cast and load for him, and really likes it for deer. He has a Colt Python 6" bbl. and we just have to seat the boolit a little deeper than for a Ruger BH, but you should be able to do likewise for your model 28.Instead of seating in the crimp groove seat it with just a little of the front drive band showing above the case mouth. Use starting loads from the books and work up, and you will find that seating deeper you will reach max a little before the one listed in the loading manuals. I did this on the .38 spl for my aunt years ago, and she loved that boolit.

i shoot it a bit ( use way more wadcutters tho , they save a wee bit of lead and powder lolz ) it was my first 358 mold ( back in the late 80's ) and i've shot in in both 38 and 357 cases as well as torture testing lubes in the 357 herret , in mags i like the old lyman start load ( #46 manual ) of 11.8 grains h110 ( please check current data however ) i worked up hotter loads but they were less accurate in my revolvers and also of note in my contender it didnt do as well unless i set the boolit out to almost touch the rifling , in my longer throated tender it didnt do as well at all :( it is however a great boolit !!!

Thanks. I'll give them a shot...no pun intended.

I've shot them since I was a kid; about the time of the Last Supper.
Size them to .358"
3.5 of Bullseye shot right on the front sight of an old 4 screw M10 S&W
5.0 of Unique same gun
4.5 of Unique for a Colt dick special
11.0 of 2400 in a Smith M19 in either a 357 or OF 38 case- seat normally---too long for some guns using the 357 case
13.5 of 2400 in a 357 case, seat deep and crimp over the front driving band for the S&W 27 and 28

Best design there is for .38 Specials and also .357 Mags. Be careful with OAL on theMags as some cylinders are too short to accept them crimped in the crimp groove./beagle

Nice boolit but the 4-hole 358429 I just bought new cast at .357- had to beagle the mold. I liked the old molds better- unfortunately gave my 2-hole 358429 away!

Excellent design. You will very likely have good results with it.
