Hi guys!

I've been reading up on these little revolvers and i was thinking about getting one. I have a set of 30 carbine dies, but no 32-20 dies. could i try this?:

resize with 30 carbine
use a .313 expander that came with my 7.62x39 dies to bell the case mouth
dump powder using 30 carbine die
crimp with 30 carbine?

and when using the .313 expander, could i throw it in a universal decaping die just to hold it?

i planned on using the starline cases as opposed to the 32-20. I'm nervous i'll get a nagant that won't chamber the 32-20s

i'd try it but i don't have the brass revolver or equipment as i am still at school.
any thoughts are appreciated.

Why not just get the nagant dies?

You are not totally wrong. If I remember correctly. You can use 32-20 cases because in the past if was near imposible to get the nagant brass but because of recent popularity a few companies are making them now. The dies are usually expensive because they are limited run but I got a set that were Lee 32-20 converted to nagant. I believe I got them at Gaff or Midsouth shooters. I had to do a search because I had a hard time finding them. You can shoot 32 Longs out of the nagant safely and some people shoot 32 mag. but it is not considered safe unless you get the 32 mag. cyl. conversion. Here is a couple places to help. Also I had to modify the Lee die a little to get it to work correctly.

tricky, don't buy any dies until you hear from Deputy Al, he knows what he is talking about. Especially don't buy Lee Nagant dies, they are made for .32/20 cases.

Tricky,
Do a search here on "nagant" and you will see what Deputy All came up with and you might be able to do the same. Yes the Lee dies are 32-20. What they did to them to covert them to 7.62x38r I do not know but I know they didn't complete the job because I had to modify them some more and I did a search latter and found out someone else modified theirs in the same way. 32-20 brass is a little tight in the rim area and you would have to remove some to make them work so why not get the right brass that is available from starline like you were thinking! RCBS makes the dies but if I remember right they are close to $200 and the shell holder is plenty expensive also. Good luck and hope you do well!
