As far as I can see ths looks like it fits a Remington or Winchester reciever, but it might pre date both.

I appreciate any help.

Moderators: If this is in the wrong area, please move it, I couldn't decide where to put it.

Thanks, Mick.

4fingermick;
1. Look for "48" on front face of block.
2. Nick Stroebel's book----pg38--- 48WJS ( that stamp looked like WUS @fg..,confirm?) IF SO, made for Win M54&70, Rem M700,721,722, Sav M110,&Wthby Mk 5.
3. If no model # stamped on block all bets off.

Stay tuned ,I'll read further. Pepe Ray

Mick;
This could also be a 57.
Seems that mounting block dimensions (HxW) are important to find series #.
given in 0.00x".

Nope!!
It's a 48 but to get a "collectors value estimate" you'll need to establish which series IOW need dimensions of block.

Its a pre WWII 48. I have one just like it, still use it.

I don't have it, I was considering bidding on it on ebay. I will check it out further, it will go nicely on my Remington 700 300WM :D Thanks for the help, Mick.

Phil;
Allow me an observation, please. Hopefully for your benifit.
If you consider 1947 as pre WWII then you'r correct. The dimensions can only be "ogled" but they appear to be those of a series III. FYI.

Hi Pepe,

The sight in the pix doesn't seem to have the aux aperture in it. So you may be right about the date. It is, however, a 48 and not a 57. Just looked at mine and the only other difference I can see is the windage knob seems to be bigger on mine.

Mick,

You will need to inlet the stock for the base if you get it. The newer ones have a shorter base that don't require inletting.

Cheers,

Phil

I second the advice to check it in books!

If the Win Mod 70 and Rem700 take the same sights, I already have a Redfield in my safe that fits a Mod 70. Am I on the right track here?

Mick;
Your prob'ly OK.
However just cause Chevrolets are rubber tired vehicles doesn't mean that all rubber tired vehicles are Chevys. [smilie=1:
Does your Reddfield have a removable slide? via push button? If so it should be stamped "80W" or "80WT" .
