Well, after 30 years it quit. Found mfgr on 'net but it appears they don't make them anymore. Think I bought mine at Dixie Gunworks but don't find it now on e caltalog.

Anybody know where I can buy another?

I suppose the heating element quit? Have you checked the wire connections and thermostat? I remember a thread a few years ago in which an element that could be bent to fit the pot was used to repair some obsolete pot. There's not much that can't be fixed, but the cost may eceed the value if you aren't a handyman.

I assume it's the element. Got the cover off but not much sense in p roceeding if I can't replaced the element.

What kind of local store would sell a lead pot? Guy in hardware store laughed at me & said plumbers don't use lead on earth pipe anymore because it's all plastic.

I imagine plumbing store will say the same Monday.

Not much fun being old.

Is it this http://www.cpalmermfg.com/hotpots/hotpot2image.html and is it useable for casting? I ask because I am new to this and lack lots of space so if this could be used to melt already acquired alloy and just pour it into a mold it might be about what I initially want to get started.

I realize it would never be a high production or elegant way to do it but it just might be right for my limited needs.

Thanks for any advice you can give to a newbie.

I use a Palmer Lead Melting Hot Pot 2 for cast boolits, and I use it quite often. It holds about 4 lbs of molten alloy. The one I purchased long ago was originally intended for use with cast fishing weights I believe.

You could try to purchase another one here, ($35.00) hopefully they still are in stock.

I adore mine, and would be quite sad if I did not have it around to cast with anymore. It find it very convenient for making small batches of cast boolits.

I got one of those hot pot II also. I love that thing, keeps lead hot while pouring.
