Great video! Back in the 60's when I was catching hops from Newfoundland to get home I flew on an Eastern Super Constellation ( same engines as the DC-7) into Harrisburg PA at night. Those exhaust stacks just glow cherry red at night! Todays air travelers would wet their pants thinking about fire that close to 100-130 octane avgas.

Good morning
My last "3" ride was across Lake Michigan into Benton Harbor in 1971. I was the only passenger. Pilot slid the curtain open before takeoff (I was in uniform) and shouted "pull that belt tight troop.. we are in for one rough ride". He was not joking. 35 minutes of the best roller coaster ocilations of my life. I had no idea an aircraft could do all that and still fly. I learned not to look out the window and watch the wings flex... that got to be scary.

That was super. Brings back memories. If you knew how many I cleaned, washed, fueled and oiled, food service, etc, you would flip! :drinks:
Those and DC6's. Then the 720, Carravelle, Viscount, 737, 727, DC10 and on up to the 777.

I flew to Germany in 1959 on a Capital Airlines Connie, but I don't think it had the turbo-compound engines. Still had the flames coming out of the stacks, though.

Thanks; Brought back memories, I worked on R-3350 compound engines, they were on Super Constellations, back in their day. Cutting edge technology at the time, fuel injection, low tension ignition and a rated one horsepower per pound of weight. They were not the same R3350 of B-29 fame, but some of the parts were interchangeable. Thanks again!!!
