Has anybody heard anything on this?
I was in the Gun Barn the other day and saw a sample. One of the guys there has a Walther 22 pistol that had a white, grey, black digitized camo done on it. There is a new guy in town that is a certified Duracoter(?) The finish on the gun looked pretty good. It was nice and smooth. Reading on it, it is supposed to be very resistant to chemicals, about impossible to chip, and will not rust at all. There is a whole slew of colors also.
I'm wondering if it really holds up to the claims.

Dont' worry about loosing your rifle in the woods.

They do have a Stainless Steel finish and Gun Blue. I wonder if this would be a reasonable alternative to blueing a barrel? If it's a tough as they say, it would make a heck of a finish for a truck gun.

I did the one from Brownell, Gunkote, on my 1911 frame. It hasnt lasted all that long for me, I carried my handgun in a dropleg holster while bear hunting, hunting in a climber tree stand the paint rubbed off from climbing up and down.

But the rails the slide rides on have hardly any wear on them after a few thousands rounds.

The aluminum frame might have something to do with it, steel might hold up better but I dont know, I also did the receiver of my Mossberg 500 and there isnt a scratch on that after beating the brush in search of cottontails this year.

I have done several shotguns and a rifle , 3 seasons of hard hunting and they still look good
I am going to do several more guns later this spring

Bore cleaner and brake cleaner have not touched it

I had to redo part of 1 shotgun because of problems , but IMO I was the problem because I didn't read the directions

First off prep work is a must , I wear latex gloves to keep my finger prints off
You have to remove any rust and all grease & oil

Rusted areas , I glass bead blast

Then mask off any areas to not get sprayed , plug ends of barrels ect
I then warm the parts , to warm to slightly hot to the touch , about 120 in the oven or with a heat gun

Then spray the Dura coat on and let dry

A best friend has started doing the dura-coat process here locally. IMHO it looks great, it helps that he's an experienced spray painter and meticulous in his prep and application.

Don't mind the ugly redneck holding that shotty, it's me!:Fire: It started it's life around 1956 as a rem 870 30 " full choke that my brother bought for duck hunting. It's now an 8 shot 18.5 inch with adjustable stock, tactical. That's what he calls the tiger stripe cammo pattern. Just don't lay it down in the woods, you'd never find it!

It is VERY tough. He sprayed the enterior of the reciever, and the bolt. Just a few scratches on the bolt where it rubs on the reciever. Even the feed rails are coated, they don't show much wear yet. I had this done for my son, who was in Iraq and Afghanistan in the 82d, they had a tactical shotty that he fell in love with. He wanted it mainly for home defense, but may get envolved in 3 gun matches.

I have heard that stuff is tough. I (hire it done) plan on doing my FAL in a winter theme white with thin black stripes. Can you imagine what it will will look like at the range in the middle of summer when everything is green.

I had it done to an old beat-up Remington 870 that I'd previously had parkerized about 10 years before. I had the guy do a matte black finish, and I'm extremely happy with it. The only wear has been on the aluminum trigger guard. Stuff just doesn't like to stick to smooth aluminum. I'm planning on taking it back and suggesting that he prep the aluminum a little differently (light sanding or something.
