NEW ORLEANS - People across New Orleans are arming themselves - not only against the possibility of another storm bringing anarchy, but against the violence that has engulfed the metropolitan area in the 19 months since Katrina, making New Orleans the nations murder capitol.

The number of permits issued to carry concealed weapons is running twice as high as it was before Katrina - this, in a city with only about half it's pre-storm population of 450,000.

Attendance at firearms classes and hours logged at shooting ranges also are up, according to the gun industry.

Gun dealers who saw sales shoot up during the chaotic few months after Katrina say that sales are still brisk, and that the customers are a cross section of the population - doctors, laywers, stay at home moms.

In New Orleans, the number of concealed carry permits issued jumped form 432 in 2003-04 to 832 in 2005-06.

That's a jump from 0.096% to 0.370% or 3.85 times (on a per person basis) as many.

Or from 1 in 1042 to 1 in 270 folks are now licensed.

(I wonder what the ratio is where I live?)

So, Reality sets in and instead of guns causing crime, they are everyman's answer to crime. Gosh but that's hard to understand (NOT).

I have joined the JPFO, seems to be a REALLY gun friendly place.
In part of the member's packet was a drawing I think would look nice on the home page of all gun forums AND on the back window of my van.
It is a drawing of Hitler, arm raised in the Nazi salute, with the caption,"If you believe in gun control, raise your right arm"
Would also like to see this on a bunch of letters to anti gun pol's., How about Fineschwine?

Even if you did send her a letter with that letterhead, she is so dense she probably wouldn't get it. She would probably think that it's appalling and wouldn't see the connection.
