I lucked into a bunch of 50 50 marked solder/ lead bars. Now I got a source of tin to add to my alloy but how much is my question.

10 pounds of wheel weight metal in my pot: how much bar 50 50 to add for correct tin %? ???

10 pounds of range lead metal in my pot: how much bar 50 50 to add for correct
tin % ???

The above is for 9mm cast bullets.

Get the lead alloy calculator by bumpo648 here, sorry I don't have the direct link. Lets you enter # of this and that and calculates result alloy.

Add 1% and you should be fine. I don't add any to mine most of the time and I still get good fill-out.

Ten pounds of metal is 160 oz.
So I need 1.6 oz of tin?
50 50 bar solder is what I have so that means 3.2 oz of it so I get the 1.6 oz of tin necessary.

Is my math correct ?

For future reference the various alloy calculators can be found in the thread by bumpo628.

1/2 # gives you ~3/3/.24/94 Sn/Sb/A/Pb

Roughly 1/4lb is plenty. Your math is correct

Scroll back up to the top of this page and look to your right. See the bold heading "Search"?

I lucked into some grade 11 Babbit Metal which is around 80% tin. It has copper and antimony in it too. Just a little makes alloy soft and crumbly while still hot after actually freezing. There was already tin in my base alloy so the tin level is high. Tin holds copper which toughens the alloy. Just another constituent which changes the freezing behaviour of the alloy but the high tin does funny things.
