Good morning
Just in case you have not heard... Huge solar flare set to hit earth this morning. May not cause any disruptions but I am going to take my house off grid at 7:00 am just in case our electrical system down here takes a good solid hit.

Very good chance for an impressive northern lights display tonight.

I'll betcha that Bret does not have any Northern facing windows in his barn......so don't expect report from him any time soon about the lights he did see in the North this AM when he was out and about doing his milk cow maintenance.

I'm wondering since the sun is so far away could you see these storms on the sun a day or two ago? But not have the affect till today.

Or in other words.

Did it take longer for the flares to reach us than the images of the strom traveling at the speed of light? :veryconfu

Actually, it take light 8 minutes to go from the sun to the earth. We see the sun as it was 8 minutes ago.

Solar winds do not travel at the speed of light and despite all the media hype this message was sent 22000 miles into space and 22000 mile back just to reach you!

We have had almost no snow, just the early one that broke trees with leaves still on. We will have a billion bugs this summer so maybe the flare will fry some! :bigsmyl2:

Off grid systems here still a go. Thought I saw the hair stand up on the back of Snoops neck in an unusual way for awhile though.

Pat
did snoop seem to mind the new du or was it just a bad hair moment?
Hope you have found some time to do something you like and enjoy life a little.

Unusual thing happen right? Went to the range and put the first three shots in the X at 200 yds out of my M1867 RB and I grant you that is real unusual, so there might be something to solar storms. Wish it would happen when it counted.

I have to get a little serious. It is the sun and the loss of plant life, rain forests, etc, that causes global warming. Life will die when there are no trees to make oxygen and use up carbon dioxide. Carbon is stored so we have gas and oil but the cycle is being broken.
Shoot all you can and drive your cars, It means nothing compared to what will come when we are gone.
Al Gore has gotten super rich over junk science and Obama is too. But both will add to future oil reserves when they rot.
I look at it this way. Grow grain, it uses carbon dioxide, makes oxygen.
Convert to sugars, make beer that introduces more CO 2 for more grain to grow plus it makes alcohol for life to be good. A good cycle that sustains life. Not a single thing is destroyed, just moved around.
Shoot a terrorist for future oil and plant a tree! Balance! [smilie=l:
All in government today could power your car to the corner store but there is enough fertilizer to grow a million trees.
