I attended an estate auction recently of one individual and here are a few of the rifle prices

Win. Model 1892, 38/40 professional rest $1000
U.S. Springfield 1873 Carbine 45/70 $1200
U.S. Springfield 1873 rifle 45/70 $900
Marlin Model 94 25/20 $575
Marlin Model 93 carbine 30/30 pro. rest. $575

good grief when I was a kid in the 70's those old trap door springfields were a dime a dozen. I can remember at gun shows seeing 55 gal barrels stacked full of them selling for $10 to $20 each. I wish I would have as a kid had dad buy one or two every year. That would have been one heck of an investment.

I'd rather give $575 for an old Marlin 1894 than buy what I saw new on the rack at Cabela's. I pulled three Brand New (REM BARREL STAMP) Marlins off the rack to look at the quality of these new guns made in NY state. All three of the stocks were very poorly fitted to the tang, AND the stocks were loose.................The wood didn't look like it had any type of finish on it. The metal finish and bluing looked o.k..
