Took the Turk Mauser & the Russian carbine up to test both out & had some mixed results. I made up some .314" boolits by sizing down the 8mm Lee 175 gr. I guess in an emergency they would do nicely as they print a group about 2 1/2" @ 50 yds. using 17.5 gr. 2400 and Lars Carnauba red.

The Turk 8mm continues to impress me with the light load of 17.5 gr. 2400 & the Lee 175 being so accurate and easy to shoot. I got 4-shots going into 3/4" and 1-flyer stretching it out to 1 1/4". Can't seem to get under an inch with all 5 but it seems good enough for an old gun like this. I did some offhand shooting & managed to keep them all inside 4 1/2" for just plunking around. I think this rifle would be a bit better if it had a decent trigger so will work on that.

The Karabiner boolit needs more work to say the least. Best I could do was around 3 1/2" @ 50 with the 17.5 gr 2400 charge. Is there any way to go with this? I know there was some discussion earlier but never did hear one way or the other whether it will shoot worth a hoot in the Turk.

So, great California day to spend not at work but at the range!

..............The Turk and the Karabiner may need some more speed "More power Scottie!" :-). I'd go to a slower powder like 4198 or 3031. With the 4198 start with about 21/22grs. With 3031 start at about 26.0grs and see what happens.

Re: Sizing the Lyman 323470 to .314". Did you lube-size it to .323" first and then send it up though a .314" push through die?

Thanks (as usual) for the advice on the Karabiner loads. I will try that next. It sure is a great looking boolit! I have some 4198 on hand as well as 4895 (both flavors) but no 3031 right now. I also have some RX-7 even so will try those and see.
We are going to the range to empty some brass at the tin can range today so next weekend may get a chance to do some shooting of those.

As far as the sizing down to .314" goes, yes I did lube them with Lars Carnauba Red in the Lyman 450 to .323 and then ran them thru the .314" Just for fun, I also sized a Karabiner that way using the same approach. They looked real good when I got done althugh the bands were just a tad wider. They slide right thru as long as there is lube in the grooves but....no lube, ya get smearing.
