I'm new to casting as well as reloading ~ I have a new Marlin GBL and purchased the Ranchdog TLC460-425 half N half GC/PB mold for it. Ranchdog has some great data on his site for the GC's but I can't find anything for the PB. As a noob I'm hoping someone can pass on a pet load or some data on loading the PB 425 cast for the 45-70.
I will be casting WW & plan on using this rifle/load for larger game (Elk, hogs, deer, ect...)
Thanks

I don't have the PB but would keep velocities under 1500fps with it. Drop lower or change lubes if it leads. I have not shot mine much prefering the 350 gr version.

try 22 grs 2400 with a tuft of dacron

I recommend IMR SR 4759 powder for the 45-70. I have only used the gas checked boolit in the Ranch Dog configuration. I load the Lee 457-340(mine casts .459) boolit but keep velocities down.

Can I load PB using CG data?

Sure you can, but watch the velocity as mentioned above.

Data will be the same for both bulets. The GC will handle velocities over 1500 better but the PB may be fine in that velocity range too.

I would try the 22 gr of 2400 with a tuft of Dacron load. It should give in the 1300 fps range and shoot quite well.

I have used a similar load in my .450 Marlin (20gr Alliant 2400) and it was a dandy.

Trajactory like a rainbow but I still got useful accuracy out to about 100 yards.

My guide gun likes 3031, but I'm using an RCBS 45-405 that has been hollow pointed. It weighs 390 now.

I am using 25 gr of 5744 for my .45-70 NOE 460-425 Same boolit as yours but with a GC. This is a 1200 fps load so it will work with a PB boolit just fine.
