A friend gave me an unopended can of Hy-Skor 700-X which I understand is no longer made. Apparently it was intended for shotgun and handgun reloads.
I cannot find any information regarding its use for handgun reloading....even after searching my older manuals.
WAS is intended for handgun reloads?
Does anyone have any reolading information using this powder with .38 SPL and
.357 Mag reloads ?
thanks

You might try Lymans 48TH edition. 700x is a very popular powder and I've used it for years in 38spl. It is very fast burning and burns clean.

I grabbed six reloading books, all have data for it. They refer to it as 700x...Ray

http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp Go to Hogdon Reloading Data. They have several loads listed using 700X for 357. I ve reloaded 357's with 700X and it is one of my favorite powders

Can someone confirm that Hy-Skor 700X & 700X are the same powder?

My can is labeled IMR, Hi Skor, 700X.
I use it for my 38 Special wad cutter loads. 3.0 grains under a 148gr DEBB-WC. It’s left over from my trap shooting days.

I've used loads of it in the 9mm, .38 Special and .45 ACP. Great powder.

Remington military .45 ACP was loaded with 700-X.

Wish I had about a 20 pound keg on my hands./beagle

The HySkor and 700X are/were two different powders. I read about these and did have 700X in an old can I used up in my T/C 223.
One picture showed handgun or pistol on the can, the other showed shotgun on the can IIRC. If I can find the ads tonight I'll post it.

Forgot the scanner is not hooked up but did find the info in the 3rd anniversary Handloaders Digest from 1966 if I'm reading the Roman numerals right.

Hi Skor single base powder designed for target loads in shotguns.

Hi skor 700X Shotgun, double base, designed for 12 gauge components.

My memory is functioning about 50%, about normal lately.

Besides using it in my handguns I burned many a pound thru my shotguns. Only down side to using it was the grey muzzle that extended several inches back if you shot more that a few shots with a shotgun.Robert

Shame they quit making 700x. I burned through a 5 lb keg of it a couple of years ago in .45 acp loads. It was a very good powder, fairly clean, economical etc.....

It's still being made to my knowledge, we purchased a 4 lb keg 2 weeks ago from the distributor.

I just bought some 2 weeks ago. It was made by IMR . I believe that they were part of the DuPont Corp back in the 70's but they are now affiliated with Hodgedon. It still says Hi Skor on it in small letters than it did back then. You can still order it from Midway. http://www.imrpowder.com/shotpist.html It is listed on their Website. Very good powder for Trap loads. I use it for loading shotshells and 38 special. If they do stop making it I'm in good shape as I bought a couple of 8lb. Jugs. Gearing up for sporting clays.

I've still got about 5lbs left from when DuPont was making it.
I dont use it in much, dont load shotshells anymore and it always seemed 'dirty' to me for handgun loads, as in lots of powder fouling.

If I created any confusion about it still being made I'm sorry. I just followed OP's lead.

NOTHING beats the smell of a fresh container of IMR powder unless it's the odor of grilling steak. MMMMMMMM. Oh yeah, they still make 700x. CB

Great powder for 12ga target and field loads- burned a ton of it for that purpose. Also, excellent for 45 ACP and 38 SPL.

700X is a great powder for low velocity cast boolit rifle loads also. Burns pretty clean in this application.

Have been using it for quite a while in the 38 special and 9 mm. Also worked well for me in the 45ACP Lower pressure than Bullseye and Red Dot and it has been burning clean. There is a lot of data around for it in various pistol cartridges. Its still available. LLS
