Has anyone worked seriously with a Handi Rifle in 30-'06? I've got a H-R in .35W that shoots paper patched SAECO 352s very well but I'd rather sling a bit less lead; therefore, I was thinking about sending my frame to NEF to be fitted with an '06 barrel. I'd like to know if anyone has been able to shoot 1MOA for five shots with an '06 H-R at 1800-1900 fps using commonly available molds. I've been getting good results with my 4-groove M70 using Lee 309-170 (cast from a shimmed mold to increase the nose diameter .001") and Re-7/SR-4759 but the M70 probably has a bit taller lands than the H-R barrels.

Marlin,

If you want to sling less lead at 1800-1900 fps.

Try the vernable .30-30. You will not be sorry.
I get sub moa with my Contender with a 23" barrel using 4756 or unique at around 1800 fps. and a 150 to 172 gr cast.

I cannot make it shoot smaller bullets. My favorite small .30 caliber bullet the .3118 splatters over 6" at 50 yards.

I've worked the 30-30 into a lather in Marlin 336s and would probably still be working it if I had a T/C frame... which I'd gladly trade for my Handi Rifle in 35W (I doubt there's anyone out there willing to make that trade).

I've got a NEF Handi in 30-06. While it does pretty well, I've not gotten it to 1MOA yet. 1.5 perhaps with Lee 170 gr group buy molds.

I found it has a LONG throat and fat too; it chambers .315" without a hiccup, and I can seat a .314299 almost all of the way out without hitting rifling.

Thank you Jon, you just saved me about 150 bucks.

So what's up with NEF's chamber dimensions in .308 and/or 30-30?
