Want to cast for my AR and a bolt gun in 223 that both have 7:1 twist rate. Is that to fast of a twist for cast boolits or am I going to be ok with 22-55-sp?

I'm thinking the 1 to 7 twist will be too fast. I'd give a few atry before buying a mould./beagle

That's too fast for ANY bullet, cast or jacketed! I believe you mean 1 turn in 7 inch twist (1:7)as 7 turns in one inch would be coarse threads :) but we all know what you mean(I hope) Since 1:9 is my experience limit I would guess you will find decent groups first in the 14-1500 fps range, after that you can work on uping the velocity.

You can't push the boolit too fast or it will strip. I have a 1 in 7 HBAR upper and virtually gave up on finding a boolit/load that would shoot in it AND cycle the action.

Well thats what i though, that twist rate is to dang fast. Yeap I meant 1:7 rate.
Thank you all.

What about 1:9 twis, would that be to fast as well? I got a 223 barrel and stock left over from a rifle build, I might use it for cast bullet shooter.

There was a fellow that shot a 1:8 twist in a .223 this past summer at the CBA nationals that averaged 1.18" for 5 shot groups at 100 yards. The small group was around .6". He was shooting a 90 grain boolit I believe about 1400 fps using 6 grains of Blue Dot.

I'l going to try the NOE 225-70 and I have a few of the Eagan 22-62 EX that I'm going to try tomorrow I hope. Got some Red Dot and Blue Dot to start with. Report will follow.

Did that function the action?

He was using a bolt action I was just wanting to point out that a fast twist can work. Although I think that it ain't going to be easy to find the right load. This guy has been working with .223's and cast boolits for a long time.

My Stevens 200 1 in 9 will shoot the RCBS 55 OK. I probably won't try it in the 1 in 7 AR.
