was looking for a lee push thru size die. because I told Tom at accurate molds I was shooting a 366" bullets in my 9.3x74R and that's what I got from the mold dropped & air cooled right on at 366" I like to size to 367. lyman #2 lead I wanted to see where I was at before I got a star die. what do I do now?? Is it a brass mold?

If it is, maybe you don't run it hot enough.
My brass molds must be really hot, alloy also (best result is with 415 degrees celsius for alloy).

If all else fails, try a couple little strips of that "beagle tape". They will get a little bigger then.. enjoy Mike

you can lap a mold out 1 or 2 thousandths with no problems.
it took me most of a week to go from 428 to 430,in a lyman 4 cavity mold.
but it's one sweet mold to cast with now.

OK you scientific types, what is that in Imperial Arseloads or degrees Farenheit?

Not poking fun, but would really like to know!

If the mold is dropping the size you want, why make it larger to size it down?
Of course, given the way I feel, I'm probably just confused.
Lube it and tumble twice in LLA. Might surprise you.

Hello, gandydancer. I too like at least .001 over groove dia. for smokeless..though you might try those .366's..they might just work. Other than as others suggested, casting hotter, ther is one more trick you can try. I needed a bullet a few thou. larger for a .44 Colt conversion..local industrial supply house can order drill bushings in .001 increments. These are hardened & ground to size.
A U drill is .368" dia. What I did was make up a base plug..I wanted a cupped base, so I used the closest dia. ball bearing. for the nose punch, I turned up a close fitting rod with a hole drilled larger than point of bullet.
This was filled with epoxy & bullet with grease as release agent on nose centered up in die.
In use, a tap with a light mallet was enough to expand the soft lead up to dia.
It is slow..& casting hotter would probably do it with your AL mould.

thanks every one for all the help. I will be casting on the morrow. I will let you know how it works out. GD

Tom: Have you emailed Tom to tell him of the situation? He might be able to open up the driving bands so they cast larger. Considering that it's a brand new mould, it should cast the size you want, so I would think he would fix the mould.

If you shoot .366" and it casts .366", I'd just run them through the sizer to make sure they're perfectly round and try shooting them. You may find your "problem" turns into a "feature".

If you get the mold too hot, the boolit will be smaller!
It is not a hole in the center of a piece of metal.
If I make a mold and it is too small, I get it hot and put the cherry back in to remove more metal.
