Remember a short while back when primers went as high as 50.00 per thousand and some payed that price and was glad to get them. We had a gun show this past weekend and a friend of mine picked up a few thousand for 30.00 a thousand, and said they had a very large stock pile of them. I wasn't able to make this show but it sure sounded great to hear the prices are back to normal. Now if gasoline would do the same we'd be in great shape.

Unfortunately, I believe with the upcoming election, mass hysteria will happen again by the end of this year. I hope not, but...

Depends on what idiot we get in office. Doesn't matter which party they're from, they'll sell you out in a heartbeat to further their career or coffers.

Fortunately, the greedy bastids who bought primers by the pallet-load so they could hoard them still have their million primers. They won't be repeating that idiocy again.

I normally pay $80 per 5,000 at either Widners or Grafs. Forgot which one. I usually try to have at least 100,000 on hand at any time.

Just bought 2000 for $28 / 1000 at our local Runnings Farm & Fleet store. They had plenty of them but a little short on LP Magnums.

Name brand here are running about 28-30 a thousand. You can't get the Russian stuff for about 20 a thousand. You can get the cheaper if you buy 5k or more at a time. Beats the heck out of 50 a thousand.

Bought 30,000 from Grafs a few years ago for $17.50 per thousand. Still got most of them.

Gents,

You know another primer scare/ shortfall is going to happen and you know prices will soar and perhaps not recover to sane levels. All of you know the deal so I would suggest you bite the bullet and stock up deep and have a really thick amount to see you through for a few years.

Snooze you lose.

I have to admit to just finishing up the last of my $12/K WLP primers. I always keep 5K min of every size I reload. When the shortage hit, I could wait for my orders to be filled & not get raped for primers. I can order delievered to my door for CCI @ $25/k. You just need to order enough to spread the HM fee. Find a friend that reloads & order up. Graf's or PV. Jut note when shopping tht Graf's rpice includes the freight but you still pay HM.

It's a snapshot. WHen gas is over $5/g in Sept. he'll be lucky if he isn't run out on a rail. We couldn't stand $5 gas in 08, it won't stand this year. The Keystone pipeline thing is going to hang him.

I try and keep a few thousad on hand for pistol and a couple hundered for rifles, i figure if something big happens i'll be pretty consevative about my usage anyways.
Last brick i bought was a few months ago, wound up bein $26/1000 for CCI LP primers after the 10% discount sale they were havin at our Big R farm store. I personally have never had an avalabity issue with them but i like to keep plenty around because they are the only thing i can't easily make.

One of the local sporting goods stores overstocked after the last run and has been closing out small and large rifle primers. I don't really need either but have often considered if I should grab them for trading stock.

I am not primer brand loyal, I will buy and shoot whatever is the best value (and available) and still go bang. Although I do prefer Win. LP and SP. I like the way they look when loaded in the case....

I can remember not that many years ago when winchester primers went for $14.95 a thousand at the gunshows and federals were about $3.00 a thousand more.

Primers seem to keep forever. I am still using the last 1000 of SR out of a supply that I bought from Herters In the 60's.
Hate to date myself that way, but it seems to fit the topic.

It may be hard to believe, but there are some, that never even heard of Herters, go figure.

Found 10K Federal small pistol primers in Florida a couple weeks back, scooped them all up for $200! Bought several more thousand for $25/K. Haven't been able to find them at stores or gun shows in Indiana for less than $30/K for over a year now.

Grafs currently has Magtec SP at $99./5K. I just ordered 10K so with hazmat they will be to my door at $23./1000 and no sales tax. In the past year I've bought Federals at $26/K and CCI at 23/K. Not fantastic but reasonable. Definitely better return on my dollars than putting it in the bank!
