My dad finally, after 3 years of being on a waiting list, got into a local range that has target butts out to 500 yards. Last weekend he asked if I was intrested in going, grabbed my M1 and my 1911, he threw in a few of his rifles and we took off.

Me with dad 1917 30-06 he just got done working over. Very nice rifle, peep sights and a lyman front bead sight, I scored 8 head shots on the a paper man-sized target at 100 yards, with some Remington factory J-bullets.

After a few minutes of messing with the sight on my garandI got it back on at 100 yards after the last outing with it, it was hitting 8" low and 3" to the right. We walked out to the 500 yard butt and tacked up a target. My dad was spotting for me I fired 8 rounds at the target with my Garand, first 6 were basically watch and see my dad not being able to see every hit he wasnt calling them for me so I started to move the sight down, after I moved it way to high up. Dad finally called what looked like a hit, turns out I had 2 hits at 500 yards out of the 8 I fired but my dad keep telling me I was hitting high, one in the shoulder one in the lower right. This is with greek GI ammo.

My dad tells me that they have some serious bench rest shooters at this club so I might need to get my "custom bench" 25-06 out this summer and do some shooting.

DAMN! A range with a "Waiting List"? Unheard of down here and what's all that 'White Stuff'?[smilie=1:

It seems like you both had a good day of it and some good shootin' as well.

Unfortunately for me, I need to travel some distance to shoot over those sort of distances.

Good luck and good shootin',

John.

You and your 25-06 had better beware of these "serious benchrest shooters", if they are true br shooters, youll be exposed to accuracy you never dreamed of!

That resembles our pistol sillywet range, snow included. We can shoot to 300yds and in the winter we put clay birds on the snow banks at 300 and shoot em with BPCR's. Lots of fun.
