View Full Version : A very nice gift

In the almost 60 years that I've been on this planet, I have, on occasion, received some exceptionally nice gifts. I'm talking about things that make a much bigger impression than just a new firearm. That special thing that really makes me sit and stare at it in amazement of what I have in my hands rather than hootin' an' hollerin'.

I and another member here have become very close friends and we talk often. Although we have never met, we have found that we're on the same page about 99 percent of the time.

I stopped by the post office today and found a package from my friend. I opened it to find a First Edition copy of John Taylor's "African Rifles And Cartridges". This is, without any doubt, discussion or debate, one of the top five percentile all time finest gifts I have ever received.

Thank you, my friend. This will not only be read, it will go in the collector's section in my library beside Sharpe and Naramore and be passed on to my grandson.

Congratulations, Jim. First for having such a friend and second for the book. I don't have a first edition but the content is most important. You will enjoy many hours of good reading.

Jim from what I know of you, you deserve it. Your friend sounds like he is cut from a mold they didn't make too many of. Congradulations to both of you for being such fine folks.

A box brownie?? I wonder how many people know exactly what you are referencing Jeff?

Nice book Jim, especially since it was a gift.

My grandmother used to have one. I remember using it, but I don't know whatever became of it.

My mother of 86 years still has hers.
I remember using it as a kid.
It was loaded with 120 or something like that.
Had to load it in the dark in the closet or it would go off.
