Went looking for these yesterday at wallyworld with no luck, BUT did find Scotch Birte copper pads. Have a little lead build up in my XD after 500rds i need to eliminate. From what i have seen these appear to be the same?

I have never seen Scotch Brite pads in copper. If they look the same, they should work. I get Chore Boy at the grocery store, Shop-Rite around here. Bronze wool from the hardware store or boat shop will do the same thing. Servi-star hardware stores have or can get it.

Watch out, some of that copper pads are actually copper plated steel. Put a magnet to the pads to check first.

If you have access to a military base the commisaries have them.

Buy some "Stuff It" copper mesh. Pure copper, not copper coated steel. A 20 foot x5 inch roll will last a loooong time.http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/stuffit-copper-mesh-p-1463.html?utm_campaign=Product%20Feeds&utm_source=Google%20Products&utm_medium=link

Hmmm, I shoot copper plated steel jacketed bullets in my M1A, Mosin, Garand, Mauser with no problems. If it is mild steel would there be an issue?

Why risk it?
I just got done using coarse steel wool on my wife's stainless steel frying pan to remove some nasty burnt on 'stuff'. Scratched up the pan pretty good.

I know that a frying pan is not a rifle barrel, but I wouldn't run it down my bore just to remove leading. Especially when it's fairly easy to get a copper scrubber.

+1 on the commissary, that's where I got mine. Wal-mart should have them too, right?

Been using copper scouring pads on my bores for yrs with no problems. I just take a few strands and put around my brush.

Who would use an NFA item to clean their bore? LOL

If anyone needs some, I'd be glad to send them out @ cost.

The reason that most companies went away from the solid copper pads is that they are used by crack junkies to put in the crack pipe for smoking the cocaine.
The steel or other products will not work for them.
While in Florida I went into several grocery stores that sold the glass tubes and Chore Boy copper pads at the check out register.
These companies are doing what they can to help stop the problem.

There is no law against copper scrubbies other than the law of economics . The price of copper is through the roof . See : " Same said methheads stealing every piece of wire they can lay hold of" . Electrified or not .

Walgreen's carries them.

I buy them by the case on eBay. Seems they work great for pots too...

4/0 steel wool. Same stuff they use to polish the metal for bluing. Won't hurt the barrel.

Has anyone bought sheets of brass screen? Compared to the price of the Lewis precut patches these would be cheap. If anyone has used these what size mesh did you use?

What about aluminum screen? Wouldn't this be the same as an aluminum gas check?

Also, while looking for the screen on line, I ran across the little circles of screen sold by Head Shops that look like they may be good also.
