Found some wheel weights, painted ones, today with MC and AL-MC markings. Anyone know what they mean?

I dont know for sure what it means but I smelted some today and none of em floated to the top so I am assuming they were lead. I think I read on a post on here somewhere that the al mean it was for aluminum wheels. That the stamping refered to what it was intended to be used for.

Great link.

I was all set to order up some of those vanity 1oz "Pole Dancer" Harley Davidson spoke weights for $10.75 a pop until I caught the "No Lead" part.

I test the stick on weights by cutting them with a pair of dikes. If they cut easily they are ok. If you don't have too many weights you can use only one dike.

I was given a box of ww marked "Aluma-Guard" Coated Wheel Weights. The box say "this product contains lead and antimony..."

Will the coating cause problems or will it "burn off" or skim off with the flux?

tding,
Throw them in and melt them down. The paint will burn off and leave some black ash. Skim it off, flux and cast away.
