Greetings from the great white north,

I know there may be a thread in here that answers this question, but here goes. I'm wanting to get into some higher volume casting. I came across the magma website, the master caster seems to be what I think I'm looking for.
...but advice from some of the more experienced guys here would be greatly appreciated. Basically looking for suggestions for casting machines similar to the master caster.
Thanks in advance, Tom

I have a Master Caster and it works perfectly. I have no complaints.

Thanks Duke, are you casting only rifle or handgun, or a mix of the 2?

I have been using the master caster for about 8 years now also have a RCBS pro melt michine on the master caster I can cast around 3000 in a day and I have cast once 5000 in a day using lee 6 cavity moulds think I had 5 of them going at one time with a kid helping me so it all depends on how hard you want to work but that kind of casting is over for me now if I cast 1000 to 1500 in a day I have had a work out D Crockett

Ballisti-Cast is a NEW VENDOR here, they also make molds for the Magma Engineering Master Caster Machine.

Balisti-Cast also makes their own casting machine along with HAND MOLDS as they have the RIGHTS to the old H&G molds and CHERRIES.

There's a couple videos of the ballisti-cast Mark IV on our website. It uses 2 molds instead of 1 and thus has double the production rate. There's videos of Magma's Master Caster on their website and youtube. I would check out both machines before you make a decision. You also might just consider getting 4 cavity molds as I know many people can keep up to a master caster with a 4 cavity mold although not for 8 hours.

I have never seen one face to face but I built my machine from photos of the master caster. I made mine self controled.

I recently purchased a Master Caster. It has been great. I much prefer it to hand casting as it doesn't beat you up. -- I have been able to cast 750 bullets (9mm), per hour. It is slower than hand casting with a couple of 6 cavity molds, but over time it out-paces handcasting. You can cast bullets all afternoon and not get tired...although it get boring after awhile.

If you keep your lead clean and fluxed....and keep your molds properly maintained it runs like a charm.

Have a Master Caster for a couple years. Using it for commercial casting.
Can cast more per hour with LEE 6 cavity molds for a couple hours, then am tired out.
The Master Caster works well over the long run. It is easy to teach an inexperienced worker how to cast good bullets with it.
Seems to work faster/better with 40 cal and smaller bullets. Have used it for .380 and .32 cal pistol bullets and can crank out about 600 + per hour.
You MUST use good alloy and flux well for best results.
Magma are good folks to deal with and very helpful.
:D
BTW,that is a swell looking machine J Morris ! When are you going to market them ? Put me on the want list !

I've been using a Master Caster for about 4 years now. A friend and I went in together on one and we each used it. This past year I purchased my own Master Caster, so we each have one now.

As noted, it doesn't beat you up like hand casting does. I've had several 8 hour sessions on the Master Caster, and then gone on to do some lubing and sizing. I can't do that with hand casting.

In fact, last night I found I needed a couple thousand .38 bullets, so I turned on the Master Caster and turned out 2,500 bullets in about 4 hours, and then loaded about half of them into tubes for the lubrisizer, before going to bed.

I've become spoiled by the Master Caster and I'm probably going to convert several of my favorite 2 cavity molds over to it. I've got two bottom pour pots and I have a hard time convincing myself to crank them up and hand cast.

Hope this helps.

All I can say is jmorris must be a heckova machinist!!! On another note, at some time in Magma's design in manufacturing the Master Caster, was there a change in key design? I have some MC keys that have shoulders on both ends and a couple that have only one shoulder on the key. Maybe some of the ones that have been using the Master Caster for a while can tell me.
