I am looking for BB sized Lead shot for making Sandhill Crane loads. Lead shot is perfectly legal in Texas for use on Cranes. Need about 50lbs of it. The only shot that I've found is nickle plated and EXPENSIVE !!!! It seems nobody has the stuff since anything bigger than 4 is rarely used anymore after the NOTOX BS has been shoved upon waterfowlers.

Lots of luck on finding BBs. I've been hunting a bag of #2s for years. Precision makes them in copper plated I beleive but I'm not paying those prices.

I finally found a couple of boxes of #2 Super X and the guy had a couple of boxes of BB Super X but I passed and have kicked my tail since then./beagle

That explains why the bidding on 16 ga. #2 (32 boxes factory loads) went so high at a recent auction. I couldn't figure out what they would be used for. Sandhills!

I use BlackCloud BB 3" in my 12 ga for high geese. This is available at most wal marts and runs about 1.25 a round. How many cranes do you want to shoot? I only killed about 4 geese last year and I still have about 15 rounds left, so they seem to last well. I know you are wanting to reload, but BB size seems kinda rare, so thought this may help.

I know that downsizing inventory is the name of the game for big companies but looks like Winington or Remchester would make a run now and then as some of us would like to keep a couple of boxes of bigger shot on hand.

No cranes here but the geese try and knock the cap off my chimney every couple of days and I need to defend myself./beagle

I believe the last time I was looking at Precision Reloading website , they had BB's and 2's on hand.

Precision reloading has it in stock. $58.29 for 25# plus shipping. I believe they use flat rate shipping so its not that bad. I have ordered from them a few times and customer service is great. I some how fat fingered an order and placed an order twice. They called me within a couple minutes to check and see if that is what I meant to do.

I handload 3 1/2 steel BB loads for cranes/geese. They are good, but a 2 3/4 load of lead will outperform any steel load on the market other than the "Heavier than Lead" Alternatives.

I'm looking to load at least a flat of 'em

I had been away from the computer and apparently missed it. That shot is now $73 per 25lbs and OUT OF STOCK.

The plated stuff is higher than a cats back as well as the $34 for 8 lbs in the previous post

Beagle, I found #2 lead shot and will be using it instead of BB.

Gene Sears company in Reno Oklahoma has it for $38 per 50 lb bag. $7.50 per bag shipping.

Thanks. That's the cheapest I've seen and the only #2s I've seen for a while.

I'll check it out./beagle

Sorry for the necro-bump, but in case anyone else is searching for BB sized shot & stumbles on this thread, I wanted to point out that genesears.com is a distributor, so you have to set up a dealer account before you can search their site or order.

I realize this is an old thread, but if anyone is still looking, I have about 7# of BB shot. Shoot me an offer.

Sandhills! I'd probably screw-up and shoot a Whooper, then spend 90 days in the cooper.

;-)

I've not seen many geese give a well placed dose of #2 any real argument. At least they did not whip the dog.

That's a possibility.
The feds are trying to spread the whoopers range by putting young birds into sandhill flocks. Hoping they will migrate with the sandhills.

Blend small steel shot like 7.5"s with your lead BB's and pass the magnate check and still have decent knock down power at range
