Anyone here have a 30/357? ( .357 case necked down to 30 cal) I got the hots for one.....Is there a good gunsmith who makes barrels for the NEF break open single shots???

Thanks in advance, Dale

30-357 is nothing more than a 30x221 rimmed. IMHO, I would go with the max case rather than the mag to take advantage of case strength and capcity.
I have had a couple of the 30x221's in the past. I will just keep using the 30-20.

Hi, castalott, I share the hots for that round with you, and also don't have one. I do have Paco Kelly's old chamber reamer for his version, with the long neck and gentle shoulder, ala the 32-20. For your NEF project, would you consider having the factory fit you up a Hornet barrel and then send it to be rebored? John Taylor has posted here and does that sort of thing.

If I ever wade through my own pile of projects and get to this one, my plan is for one in a Marlin 1894C, no action work required. I also have a Remington # 1 1/2 RB in 32 rimfire, that would work well converted to the 30/357 Max.

When Starline came out with good 32-20 brass, it somewhat reduced the 'need' for the converted 357 case, so I understand JSHs case. Still a cool idea, though.

I wonder if the factory would fit up a 30 barrel without a chamber......Then send it off to be chambered...It's probably all a pipe dream....but boy would I like to try it!

I could probably get by with the 30-30 pretty well....I was just wanting to play with plain based bullets in a small case to see how fast they could reasonably go.....

Call 'em up! - 1 866 776 9292 Not much waiting for an answer either.

Just for information, the .30 Carbine and the .32-20 are within a couple of thou (less than the case manufacturers slop around) of each other for headsize. A.32-20 stuffed into a M1 carbine sizer becomes a .30 Carbine rimmed presto ( have to trim about .2 off the length, or you could long neck it). Uses carbine chambering reamer, and dies, 32-20 shell holder. FWIW
