As long as you keep the shots within 200 yards you should be fine without any parallax issues. Depending on the reticle pattern, you might have some issues drawing a decent bead but it will work for the ranges that the 30-30 and 7.62x39 can shoot.

I put a 1.5 X4 power shotgun scope on my Marlin 35 Remington and really like them. For the ranges I use that type of rifle I leave it on 1.5

I use a redfield 2-7 on my 35 rem and love it.

The parallex is usually set for a shorter distance, can't remember if they are 50 or 75 yards, versus 100 yards for rifle.
It should still work fine. I had one on a 357 Marlin with no issues.

Thats is what I would use. 7 power to sight in at 100 yards and then keep it on 2 power for hunting. I am trying to find one for a friend to mount on his Marlin 336 in 30-30.

If looking at alternatives my 444 really shone with a Leupold 2.5X Ultralite fixed power scope. Good sight picture to 200 paces easily. The low power scopes or settings really work like optical peep sights.
