OK, I shot by first boolits today. I really owe everyone here a debt of gratitude.

.45acp, 230gr LRN from a Lee mold. 5.5gr Unique (the same load I use with my 230gr FMJRN)
tumble lubed with Lee alox
Fired from my Colt Combat Commander

It seemed like I was getting a lot more smoke than when I shoot the jacketed bullets (though I did not do a side-by-side comparison).

Is that common or am I imagining it?

P.S. I ordered a 45-230M mold from Accurate Molds today. I think I'm addicted.

It's the bullet lube, the smoke that is.

Seems like the lube/Unique combination makes a lot of smoke from my experience./beagle

If that's the cause then I'm not going to concern myself with it. The boolits fed just fine. They went where they were supposed to go. No leading in the barrel. I think I can put up with a little extra smoke.

I'm noticing less smoke since I got away from using the Alox, even when it was cut like 50% with the JPW. So, yeah, it does smoke some. But still, not a big deal.... enjoy Mike

I notice the smoke far more watching someone else shoot than when I shoot.

It is just the lube, it is a "benefit" of shooting cast.

In my experience, alox lubes smoke more than other lubes. Shooting outdoors isn't an issue. But at indoor ranges you'll really notice the smoke.

If you want to reduce smoke, do not use too much Alox. Couple of drops is enough for 100 tumble lube bullets. But you probably already know this from the instructions.
