My neighbor gave me some roofing vent that I think is pure lead. I've been using WW for Cowboy bullets. Can I mix in some of the roofing alloy with the WW and still get good results?

He also gave me some "sheets" of lead that is soft lead. Can I mix this in with the WW and still get good Cowboy bullets?

I was thinking one ingot of the soft lead with 5 to 6 ingots of the WW lead. What do you think?

Thanks for the help! Macinaw

50/50 will work great. You can go a bit softer if you want to.

The sheets and flashing will probably have a bit of Sb in it and with the Sb and Sn in the WW your alloy will respond to heat treat if you want something a little harder.

Adding some Sn will help fill out the details in the mold...3-4 oz. of 95-5 or 6-7 oz. of 50-50 solder per 20 lbs. of alloy.

I'm mixing 50/50 wheel weights with roofing lead and getting great results. I started that since WWs are getting a lot harder to find.

I came home from work one day and found the 900 pound pile in the driveway.

Time to smelt it and pour ingots!

Roof flashing is good stuff. Kind of smokey to melt but the results are the same. The scrap place I went to yesterday probably had a few thousand pounds of it. I passed and got 500 lbs of ww, about 10 lbs of linotype, and probably 30 lbs of plumbers lead in ingots. They had 3 full 55 gallon drums of 22 for .45 cents a pound. They also had thousands of pounds of cable sheathing and lead lining for .65 a lb.
