I'd like to start shooting some cast buolit plinker loads in my K31s and Mosin-Nagants. I see 10-12 grains of Unique mentioned quite often. Obviously that will not even come close to filling those voluminous cases.

1. Is some sort of poly filler an absolute must for this application?
2. Or is tilting the rifle up before each shot enough?
3. Or is it nothing to worry about at all with such a fast burner powder?

I've read all three answers in various places and would appreciate hearing some thoughtful analysis of those answers from experienced boolitfolk.

Thanks!

i have used red dot in my mil guns, it uses almost the same amount of powder as unique and it was sponsored by a famous writer and its been used by countless individuals so ill say keep on shooting shooter.

Still developing loads for most of the milsurps, but Unique works extremely well in the '03-A3 and K98k.

462,

With normal primers and no poly/Dacron filler?

I don't use filler in any of my rifles using Unique. Which includes the 30-30, 45-70, 30-06, 32 Win. Special, or a 35 Remington which I no longer have. I don't think it is position sensitive from my experience.

Pastorcurtis,
Scoped '03-A3, Wolf large rifle primers, no filler of any kind, and no trick cartridge handling.

you don't need a filler with unique.
i was closeer to 15 grs with the k-31.
it however likes 2400 much better.

Unique, Red Dot and 2400 I've found does not need filler. You will be limited on velocity. I need a load with a little more felt recoil for practice. Adding that filler adds an additional amount of time to the process.

HI,
SWEET GROUP 452.
The only reason to add filler w/ the WW1 &WW2 mil surp. rifles & the pistol powders is if you are shooting a GC boolit w/o the GC, or a plain base & really pushing vel.:Fire::Fire:

Boom Boom,

Please explain why the filler is needed for GC boolit w/o the check? I assume this is a leading issue and not a safety issue?

No fillers, no tipping. Unique is quite position insensitive.

Drop in the powder, seat the boolit and shoot. Quiet, mild recoil and quite often very
accurate.

Enjoy.
