was in the local wally world today, and noticed a revamped sporting goods section. we lost rifles about a yr ago, but a store south of here still had them.
the news is that wally world is getting out of the gun biz........i was told wiht in the year there would be no guns in wally world.
we have a ton of big box gun stores here so its not a lack of availability, just loss of another source.

Crap.
I felt this might happen when Mr. Walton died, he was a hunter and shooter but now its just another big bussness, with a board of directors that don't do either and with "PUBLIC PERCEPTION" to think about, oh no, what if somebody bought a gun at Walnuts and shot up a school, liberial media would be all over that, can you hear the interviewers question now, "so if the assault weapon(single shot shotgun) was purchased at the local Walmart store, just 5 years earlier, do you think the victims have the right to sue them". In this sue crazy country, big bussnesses all have a big targets on their backs and cann't believe they made that much on guns anyway, bet we start to see less and less hunting and fishing supplies at Wally World now too, just like their chief competitor Target.

When I was in a WM the other day I heard one of the employees explaining to somebody about how poor their record keeping had become as in accountability/logging of guns they had sold. I can see that as more of a reason to stop selling guns than anything. Just let the gov't folks get a hold of a company the size of WM when they can't keep track of what they sold to who and see how big the fine would be. The must have seen the writing on the wall. Keeping track of sales is MUCH easier in a smaller mom and pop sized store.

yes beau, BUT Wal mart has under priced all the small shops in this area. many of them have closed up. We do have Dick's and Pro Bass around .There prices are quite a bit HIGHER than the local places. Must be the over head ,lots of clerks and stockboys.

The reason WM is getting out of gun sales is the accountibility. They keep having trouble with tracking what they sale. Supposedly it got so bad that when some of the stores were undermanned someone who would be filling in or covering two departments would actually just sell a forearm with no paperwork (as it should be). This has caused some problems with WM.
The stop of gun sales right now is still being looked at as a regional thing. Even here the stores that are in high crime areas don't sell firearms, small town stores do.

I heard that Hillary Clinton and Sarah Brady are on the Board of Directors at Wal Mart now. No member of the Walton family is in a position of power at this time.

If you are looking for selection and price then for most things ( toothpaste, vacuum cleaners, etc...) Wal-Mart is the place to shop. That applies to most of our consumer needs, however I believe that firearms are not included in this market. Sure I have priced them there, but the only deals I have found is .22 ammo and a few cleaning supplies.
I had much rather cruise the pawn shops and gun shows for a gun. Previously owned guns have much more character, especially the milsurps. Roses used to have one of the most intersting selections of used guns and milsurps in our part of the country. But even they no longer carry them. Pawn shops and gunshows are where the deals are. You often find much more interesting items and often you can dicker the price down. Overall, It's a much more enjoyable venture.

Why anyone would spend a dime on gun-related stuff at Walmart is absolutely beyond me. Typically the difference in price between them and the small gun stores here in Alaska is only about 10 to 15% anyhow, and I'd much rather support the gun stores.

WallyWorld didn't sell him the gun, the government through the FBI/ATF did with it's instant background check. Since passage of the Brady Bill, the government has become an entregal partner in every firearm sold thrugh an FFL dealer in the US. Strikes me the wrong people are being sued. It's high time the libs faced the music they've been singin' for others to dance by.

So, John H, you'd rather wait how long? I think someone missed the point. It's not in any way the fault of whomever sold him the gun (or the knife, or the baseball bat, or the rat poison, or the car). The point is he might have knifed her or beat her to death anyway if he was that p!$$*d. Neither Wally world nor the gov't shot her. You're right the wrong people ARE being sued.

JOHN...I HOPE I HAVE MIS-READ OR YOU MIS-SPOKE.
as a citizen of the usa , the man has the RIGHT to purchase a firearm. as a human, he is EXPECTED to act responibly. when he CHOSES to not act responsibly HE is then held accountable for what HE DID.
THE GOVERNMENT AND THE STORE had no part in his actions, nor did the GUN MANUFACTURE NOR THE AMMO MAKER.
the fact that the government has a process in place to violate my 2nd ammendment rights, has a paperwork process to qualify purchases, does not make the government, nor the person doing the paperwork responsible for what the purchaser does with what he bought. do you honestly think , that if he had taken a chainsaw to his wife , that we would have chainsaw purchased controlled by BATFE ?
SORRY FOR BEING POLITICAL HERE, BUT AS A RULE DEMOCRATES PERFER TO HOLD THINGS( GUNS/CARS/ALCOHOL) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACT NOT THE PERSON INVOLVED.
we have laws, but we are not allowed to act(in most cases) until the act is in progress or has happened.......this is part of the priveldge of living in a free society....its called rights and responsibilities.
