Like many here, I am no fan of post sizing rounds with lead boolits and thus prefer to use the Lee pistol type factory crimp (FCD) die as an adjustable final crimper only. Some here just knocked the ring out and were done with it. I was loading 38 spcl and 40 S&W and elected to put the proper crimp ring into the body of a FCD for 45 Colt. Worked great.

But last evening, I set-up to replenish my supply of 45 Colt revolver rounds. I have no larger die. But I dimmly recalled someone here mentioning the use of a Lee powder through die to accept the adjustable crimp feature. Worked like a charm! Just borrowed the powder through from a set not in use and home free without altering the original die.

Thank you! I'll try that.

Yep. I read that "powder through die" post awhile back, gave it a try, and it worked like a charm. No more squishing down my boolits when I crimp.
