I've got 7 25 pound pigs of monotype. I got bunches of WW, and some pure lead too. How can I alloy this down to Linotype or thereabouts?

Wheel Weights, clip-on
1/2% tin, 4% antimony,
95.25% lead, 1/4% arsenic ,
Linotype
4% tin, 12% antimony, 84% lead,
Monotype
9% tin, 19% antimony, 72% lead

SOOOO.............. I'm thinking 50/50 should be real close......Buck

John, Linotype has a Bhn of 22. Here's your mix to get to lino:
65% Mono ... Bhn 28
35% WW ... Bhn 12
This alloy mix has a calculated Bhn of 22.4

NRA Cast bullet supplement says one part type to two parts WW's equals linotype. The stuff I have has copper in it. Heat the mix to about 700 degrees and then drop it back to just liquid for a quarter of an hour and the copper will come to the top and can be skimmed off, otherwise it will plug up a bottom pour pot.

To remove "tramp" metal such as copper you will need dry sawdust. Bring your melt to just the molten stage and stir in the sawdust as vigorusly as you can from the bottom to the top. Skim off the top, re-pete one more time to make sure you've got the last of it. The trick is to keep the temp down as copper melts at a higher temp. By the way there are five different types of monotype 1) ordinary contains 15% Sb, 7% Sn 78% Pb. 2) display contains 17% Sb, 8% Sn, 75% Pb. Lanston std contains 19% Sb, 9% Sn, 72% Pb. 4) case contains 24% Sb, 12% Sn, 64% Pb. 5) rules contains 15% Sb, 12% Sn, 75% Pb. Wheel weights can contain anywhere from 0.68 % to3.00 % Sb and from 0.017 % Sn to 0.29 % Sn, As from 0.08 % to as high as 0.29 %. both types will contain a small amount of other trace elements but the bulk will be Pb. Hope this helps!
