How do Savage barrels handle cast in general. I know their barrels are button rifled. Has anyone here measured the groove depth ? I see on the Savage site that new for 2012 they're doing a 375 Ruger, in the hunter model. What interests me is that their Alaska model has a 1/14 twist and possibly their hunter model will have the same. I'd prefer the 14 twist as opposed to the usual 12 for cast. Zastava does a 14 twist on their 375 H&H but it's in a 22" barrel. I just can't see me doing a 375H&H or Ruger cast boolit gun with a 22" spout. I believe the 375 Ruger has a shorter neck, but I'm not interested in boolits over about 280 grs. If Savages shoot cast well in general, this may be an interesting way to go. Any ideas or input? Thanks for the reply. Good to know they'll shoot cast, right out of the box, like that. Of course you can also add custom barrels to your collection. I love the flexibility. Awesome groups. Ron.D

I have an old left hand Savage 110 in 30-06. Shoot the 314299 to 2,600 fps in an inch at 100 yards.
The 311041 with SR4759 will go into groups of less than an inch on occasion, just over an inch most of the time, at 100 yards.

Well, if you can get cast up to 2600 that about answers my question. That's awfully good shooting by the way. Thanks
