I have been casting .45ACP for quite a while. I just got a 150 gr mold, for 30 cal. I want to shoot these boolits in my 300 Savage, as well as my 30.06. I have found quite a bit of data on the 150gr for the 30.06. The data on the other hand for the 300 Savage seems to be in short supply. I have a good supply of Bullseye, but can get other powder as needed. I am thinking Red Dot or Green Dot. Anyone have any reliable starting data for the Savage?

Thanks

Use Cast Boolit loading data for 308 Win as a starting point. You are basically shooting a short necked 308Win as the case was the basis of the design for the 308. SAAMI limits commercial loadings of 300 Savage to 46,000CUP due to the many lever-actions chambered for this cartridge. 308 Win is spec'ed out to 52,000 CUP so if you are shooting a good bolt action, you can develop 300 Savage handloads that nearly equal the 308 Winchester (jacketed)

Lyman's Cast bullet Handbook (3rd Edition) has loads for 300 Savage. I don't have the newer 4th Edition so I can't say if the loads are there.

I looked in the 4th edition, which I have, and it did not have anything listed for 150gr, but did have 165gr, so I might look at that and do some calculating.

Thanks Bruce for the info.

Just use the data for the 165gr for start point. Different boolit profiles will cause as much difference in pressure as the 15gr difference in weight.

Happy shooting.

Or you could use the 30 30 data, starting about middle and work up to where accuracy suffers, using reasonable caution of course. Probably accuracy will disappear long before hazardous pressure is reached. I'd suggest though, that you try some slightly slower powders like 4227 or 2400.

Nothing here for lead boolits,

thanks

Steves reloding pages are not listing jacketed or lead, just weight. I substitute lead for jacketed when there is not alot of info, your pressures will be lower.

I use H335 and a gas check for my Rem. 81, the pistol powders wouldn't cycle the action.
