View Full Version : New Category Needed?

What with all of the recent Zumbo threads and especially with the newly staffed Democratic Congress and the high jinks that they are proposing (H.R. 1022 Clinton Gun Ban being reintroduced), I think we may need to add a new category for Political Stuff.
At the least it would help our existing categories remain unclutterd with these emotional, yet very real issues.

I dunno about "Political" per se, maybe a "Right To Keep And Bear Arms" category might be worthwhile. For my own part, I largely use Cast Boolits as a refuge from swinish politics, but I have commented on RKBA issues right along with a lot of other posters. So, my "avoidance" of politics is not complete.
The never-ending assault on our civil rights to own and use firearms in a morally correct fashion causes a great deal of anxiety--which produces commentary--and while our thrust here is the use of poured boolits, I'm not sure that ANY firearms venue can be wholly divorced from RKBA issues.

Perhaps what we need is a different place to talk about political issues where voices can be heard...

I'm hoping Pat Marlin can chime in a bit on what this place will behold in the future.

I proposed similar a week or 10 days ago down in what is it, Humor and Off Topics. Got the impression nobody wanted to do much besides bitch about the NRA and argue about who's ox is being gored. I even quit reading the RKBA & similar posts the last few days. Mebe I should go read 'em and see if anything has changed? Regards, Woody

Woody, I kinda got the same impression. Lots of running around like the proverbial chicken sans his head.
It literally may be a life and death issue. In such issues you only have a couple of choices. You can go quietly, you can go screaming and sobbing or you can fight. The enemy only had one choice, he chose to be the aggressor, and thought you were his prey.

I believe Gunload Master has hit the proverbial bullseye... This site was set up for the enjoyment of cast boolit shooters and as important as our various political agendas are, maybe this site is not the proper venue for them.
As ardent of a supporter as I think I am, I did get tired of rehashing the Zumbo issue. Plus I miss the real meat of our casting shop talk.

Uncle, I'm leaning in your direction on this topic.

I think you nailed it Grinch.
I am actually looking for as many ideas on what this new place should have in store as possible. Blogs, forums, news articles...etc.. Any help on this would be great, and I wouldnt mind having a few people help lead this new place...

I've been blabbing (god knows how it's been recieved) about a site that could help coordinate people who are making an effort to further the interests of gun ownership. Forums for discussions, fine! Political heads ups. Index of pro and anti gun groups, politicians etc.. Interconnecting with other pro gun groups, and hopefully some way of forming concensus (I KNOW that's unheard of around here) and getting some unified action going. The idea is to not go back to sleep and let the zumbo thing be an isolated phenomenon.

Yup, that would work. Let's keep this place for chawin' 'bout cast boolits. The other, RKBA stuff, ir real important, but kinda mucks this place up a little. With a spot dedicated for RKBA, I bet even Woody (who was first to suggest) might even hang his hat in there for a spell from time to time. I know I would. You could even have a pro/con NRA/GAO/Brady/VPC/Other Orgs section and everyone could pontificate to their heart's desire.

God knows I love a debate but one constant on most gun forums where issues such as the American RKBA or our own ongoing fight with the antis up here is it tends to be a talk point with very like minded individuals. I dare say none
of the posters here would argue for tighter gun legislation so Sundog posts an opinion about one politician and ten others post comments supporting his opinion. Nothing much accomplished really. Kind of like sitting around a circle arm in arm telling each other how wonderful we are. Good for the ego I guess but doesn't do much outside our little circle.

What would HELP is a list of people, companies and corporations that don't support use by contributing to the opposition. I have not seen to much in that regard. Addresses, both snail mail and e-mail would let us bother them somewhat, would it not.

The NRA/ILA website has good stuff for those willing to look for it and do something. Regards, Woody

Uncle Grinch:
Political Stuff? Not too crazy about the political part but I understand what you're getting at. Some good suggestions on both sides though.
How about this:
Make the Legislator contact e-link that I posted a while back on this forum a per
manent header so that anyone could easily find and contact their elected official
whenever an important gun issue comes up. Recent events have demonstrated
that there is no lack of support
for the second amendment, however it needs to be directed to those who have
the power.
Create a separate header for pending gun legislation or/and gun control issues,
similar to the NRA e-mail alerts. Then anyone could use it to keep everyone else
informed. This could include legislation or anything that has to do with gun own
ership.
IN ANY CASE JOIN THE NRA!

I think we are beginning to put some good action items for this website together. It can be a place to go to for...
*Pending Legislation - Subcategories for Federal and each State
*Support Organizations
*Contact Lists for each Federal and State Representative/Senator
*List of Anti-gun Organizations
*Examples of How & What to say to your Representative/Senator
I'm sure there are more items to consider, but we have to start somewhere.
