.32 H & R Magnum

Ok, Fellows, I need your learned opinions on which boolit design, diameter, and weight for a Single Six Ruger .32 H & R Magnum, if you please. My contacts in the Shooting World finally paid off! My next door neighbor, a Gunsmith, knocked on my door last Wednesday and said he had a Single Six on the way for my inspection. HOT DOG! :-D I have been looking for quite a while. I would like to use the pistol for general plinking, paper cutting and small game hunting, especially those dangerous pop cans. I would also like for the mold I buy to be a Lee Precision mold from stock. It can be two cavity or a six banger. No special orders if you please. Maybe later on, but now I want to get the needed material such as dies, brass, and mold ordered. My pistol is arriving in the AM for my inspection and if it is acceptable, I would like to get the order on the way tomorrow from Midway, Graf, Midsouth, or someone like that. So, if you Gentlemen would like to voice your opinions, I would be more than glad to read them and take them into consideration.:coffee:

This isn't a Lee mould but the RCBS 32-98 is what I shoot in my .32 mag.

I bought a ruger .32 mag once.............thats how I originally ended up here!! Wouldnt part with my 32 for nothing.I bought a lee mold that cast about 92 grains(cant remember the number) is made for 32 pistols (round nose), its accuracy was lacking for me. The lyman 311316 is probaly the most accurate thatr ive found. Wanting to get away from the gas check,I bought the rcbs 98 swc,and this is the bullet I shoot mostly now, not quite as accurate as 311316, but cheaper to shoot! With a case load of h-4227, either of these bullets will shoot way under 2 inch groups@25 yards. This is one sweet shooting outfit,for sure. Wish ruger would make it on the full size frame,instead of the sinsle-six. I predict that youll fall in love with the gun!!!!

This isn't a Lee mould but the RCBS 32-98 is what I shoot in my .32 mag.

thats my favorite bullet too. You just missed a group buy on it in a 6 cavity lee.

the Lee .314 90 grain SWC is a good mold too. I shoot these regularily, and they are almost as accurate as the Speer .314 98 grain hollow base wadcutter at 25 yards (groups about the size of a quarter), and MUCH more accurate than the Speer bullet at 100 yards (where the Speer bullet makes 10 FOOT patterns).

Since the 98gr GB bullet is so great, when are we going to do another GB on it ?

I missed the last one by a couple of weeks. I've got two 32 H&R's and a two banger ain't cutting it.

I can live with lot's of burdens, but not having a decent mold for 32 H&R is starting to really be a hassle.

Who wants to Honcho ?

I shoot thousands of Lee's TL314-90-SWC through my Ruger Single Six and Contender. I also have shot them through several S&W and H&R .32 magnums I've had. I have the 6 banger from Lee and it was a catalogued item when I got it. I cast the bullets out of range scrap lead and load over 3 gr of Bullseye in Starline cases. This load runs 1003 fps out of the 6 1/2" barreled Ruger revolver and 1125 fps out of the 10" Contender. My requirements for this load are exactly the same as in your quoted statement above and this load/bullet is perfect for those requirements.

Thank you, one and all, for your replies. I now have the above mentioned .32 H&R Mag in my possession. Beautiful pistol, in MHO. Of Course, I am partial to Ruger Single Sixes. First Birds Head grip I have ever owned.

I'm very new to casting, so my experience is very limited. The only casting I've done is for my 32 magnum. I'm casting the Saeco 95g SWC, and this bullet is amazingly accurate. It also has a wide metplat, and even at 750 fps it really thumps small game with athourity.

I'm planning on getting the RCBS 98g SWC too, but haven't got around to it yet.

I bought one but it doesn't cast large enough for my .32 magnum. It makes a pretty cool little plinker out to 25-50 yds. in a .30-30 and even some guys were using it in .30-06. I used 8 grains Unique in the .30-30. I think that boolit is designed for a .32 automatic if I remember right.

Yeah, I missed the .32 Keith last year by a week or two, also. I didn't find this forum in time. I have the RCBS, but I want to try the Lee/Keith, as well.

I've been waiting for this one to go again. It and the .45. I'm not in a big rush, but if someone's willing to honcho it, I'm in.

No experience with Lyman #311252, but I have #313249, an 85 grain RN that falls out at about .3135". I use it in a BUNCH of 30/32 caliber handguns, and it is a very useful design. It isn't quite as accurate as the RCBS 98 SWC in the 32 Magnum, but it doesn't do badly at all. The design has a full caliber front shoulder behind its RN point, and it whacks jacks about as well as the SWC. This is the bolit I use most often in the 30 Mauser/7.62 Tokarev and the 7.65 French MAS pistol, too.

I know this is a bit sacreligious, but the swaged Hornady 90 SWC bulk jobs work good for cheap shooting. Personally I'm a 311316 man from way back. Of course these days you'll pay dearly for what should be a standard catalog item from Lyman. In the Lee line I like the looks of the 90 gr SWC TL mould, which of course Lee no longer catalogs in a 6 banger. The RN design does come in a 6 banger and it may work. On the off chance you have a tight barrel, (you'll have to slug it), and can find a slightly fat mould the 30 cal Soup Can would be about perfect. You'd think Lee would fatten the sucker up to .313 and satisfy the need.

You can keep an eye on Ebay, home of the fool with money, and look for a Lyman 311631 or any of the 311 diameter designs around 100 gr. The Lyman 311359 is a spire point job originally intended for the 32-20 Win that would probably work and is readily available, although many claim it was designed for the 30 Carbine.
