I have another question

I have a load for my wife and daughter for my 30-06

it is a 170gr with 12gr of unique. In 50 yards it drops mayber 4 in.
Is there a way to improve on this?

Thanks for the help

Joe

My boolits usually don't drip unless I open the mould too soon :kidding:

You pretty much have two choices: Adjust the sighting equipment to compensate for the drop, or build a load with a slower powder and more velocity to more closely match what I assume is your factory ammo setting.

Aim higher Joe. :D:kidding:

Sometimes if you reduce your load it will start to print higher. My dad's springfield hit point of aim for factory ammo at 25 yds with 5gr of Unique and a 150gr plain base.

Try loading that with 2400.

I bet you were in Panama too.:2 drunk buddies:

Seriously adjust the sights to compensate for the boolit drop.

i just resight the rifle.
if you are letting them practice with it a lot, then re-set the sights.
you will want to clean it and resight it for deer season and the j-words anyways.
either that or up the load some.

I'd up the powder charge a bit (follow the books and don't go nuts). My 170gr cast over a max charge of 2400 in a 308 shoots to factory point of aim at 50 yards. Drops (drips?) about half a foot at 100 yards.

I have not had much luck finding a cast plinking load that didn't shoot about 4" low at 50 yds when the gun was sighted in with full power loads. I just resight the gun before hunting season.
