Seems 5744 is AWOL in my area, so I'm looking for alternatives for powder.
I see some are using Unique, 2400 etc. I have both of these on hand, any idea where to start for 205 grain boolits? ( you'd think with Western Powders being in eastern MT we would have that powder everywhere in NW Montana, not so)
I sent an email request to Alliant you guys might be faster :D

I picked up a can of Trailboss this morning to try as well, BTW, whats up with that coming in a 9 ounce canister? Cheapskates
We've been downsized again

I dont imagine I need to mess with filler with Unique or 2400, correct? Just tip the rifle up before firing?
Thanks!

Try 28 -30 gr 4895 with a 1/2 - 3/4 gr dacron filler. Won't need to tip the rifle up before firing and accuracy will be very good if the 200 gr cast bullets is GC'd, sized .312 - .314 and has an appropriate lube on it. My standard load with 314299, C312-185 or the GB C314291 in all my 7.65 M91 and M1909s.

Never mind on the 2400, I didnt see the data for it in the Lyman book the first time, but its there :)
I like 4895, shoots well in other calibers I have

Well,I tried my first loads with Trailboss today,
11 grains put 3 in 1-1/2" at 100 yards, and its like shooting a BB gun :)

I discovered the reason for 9 ounce canisters as well. That's all that fits in the standard can! DOH!!

I have no idea, Western Powders said they have LOTS of it, resellers are not ordering it. I'm guessing because it;s not a fast mover. One of our local "reloading specialty stores" told me they couldn't get it. I know this to be a big load of BS now. I aint shoppin' there no more.
Another store did order me some in so I dont have to pay the haz mat fee on shipping anyway

Unique is not position sensitive. Try 13 grains with your 205 grn boolit. Depending on your gun you may be able to work up to 15 grains safely; but 13 grains seems to be almost universal in many of the milsurps. Good accuracy and "B-B Gun" recoil as well.

Hope this helps,

I was playing with 11-12 grains of TB in my 7.7mm Jap just yesterday, and it's basically the same as the 7.65 Mauser......just longer. Results are looking good but I have to run my 174 gr. boolits at .315 to accomodate my type 99's generous bore though. I'll be trying a heavier (200gr.) boolit next.

If you look at the jug TB comes in, you'll realize it's a 1lb. container. The powder is so light and fluffy they can only get 9oz. in there, but the price is lower so it evens out.

My 91 Argie loves the first run Fat 30 and 13.0 Red Dot in Grafs brass. I understand 16.0 2400 is about the same but haven't tried it yet.

Same load data works for 7.65x53, 7.7x58 and 303 British.
311299 sized .312
12 grains Unique for light load.
20 gr 2400
38 gr Win-748
Back in the 1960s, I used 25 Gr HiVel #2, but it is no longer available.
