I have a Lee hardness tester. I have seen referrences to using a plastic bottle cap drilled or something to make it easier to read. Can anybody describe how to do this, and especially a picture or two?

You can also make a little stand out of wood that works good to keep it steady. I would guess you could use a bottle , too.

You can use the search function to find threads like these.

Thanks JonB, THat's the kind of info I needed. I was unable to find things using the search feature. Sometimes I'm a bit computer stupid. I do appreciate it!

Nobody ever addresses this, or perhaps I am just blind as a bat, but you will also need a flashlight.
The way that little microscope is made it is really dark in there where the impression is.

I had trouble seeing the dent/hash lines with my Lee tester 'scope. I tried a 45 ACP die w/o the innards to hold my 'scope, with a bright light, but still wasn't very easy. So I got my magnifying visor a really bright light, and my dial calipers. Much easier to measure the indentation. I double checked my method against the Lee 'scope several times and was just as accurate. works quite well for me!...

Just pretend you're moving the boolit when you move the scope then it's not so backwards.

ALSO,
when I'm filing a 'flat' on a boolit for using the Lee hardness tester,
the Last stroke of the file, I'll run it diagonally to get what appears
to look like Machining lines. When I look through the microscope,
the lines help me see where the edge of the dimple is and makes it
easier to judge which hash marks the edge lines up with.

BTW when I say diagonally, I mean I'm holding the file diagonally,
but the motion is perpendicular with the direction of the boolit so
the lines are perpendicular with the boolit since my fixture works
best with direction.
