Ice Fishing

I have been spending some time on the ice. At two local lakes and at some ponds we have had 10"-15" of ice. I caught these Brook Trout Christmas Eve and limited out on Rainbows the day before. These Brookies get into a local ranchers irrigation ponds and get fat on freshwater shrimp. They tried to leave and spawn this fall but were unable to get out the inlet as it was too shallow. They are now absorbing the eggs but still have some color to them.
The Rainbows were all bout 13" and planted last April. They were now pink meated and a good gift for the MIL. Might get out again this weekend but temps have been in the 40's with 40 mph winds. I don't care for slick ice and wind.

Goldurn it, you're going to make me go fishing again next week. I have the shakes from not fishing since last weekend.

Wind? 119 mph up on Marias Pass today. That would blow the shanty across the lake!

Nice work. I lost a nice rainbow today; had to be about 4lb. My own stupid fault. Go day out though.

Arn't trout fun on those short rods!! Congrats I allways thought brookies an browns were the best eaters.

Not enough ice to stand on yet but some in protected areas that the boat will cut through. Caught these the other day.

I don't ice fish, or any other way for that matter but even if I did, we don't have ice yet. Most unusual. Nice group?, passel? what do you call a bunch of fish anyway, a herd?

Nice catch. i caught 20 yellow perch yesterday on my first ice fishing trip of the season.most 7-9 inch but one was 13 3/4.
today we are haveing a bilzzard.........

Caught near 100 salmon so far this winter, and a few 'bows.
This weather isnt helping the ice situation though

I caught a couple 20" brook trout through the ice up here a few weeks ago, but its so warm now we have no ice anymore!

Years ago two friends of mine went ice fishing &caught over 400lbs of ice, poor guys wife drowned trying to fry it:groner:
BTW nice mess of fish brings back good memories.
