I've heard several different pronunciations, just curious how you pronounce it.

As in, "Those Glocks have polygonal rifling".

I was thinking the same thing about the Mormon pronunciation. My guess would be emphasis on the pOLygonal, so poly would be pronounced like you would pronounce the name Molly.

I am a mormon... I pronounce it polly-gone-all and so do all my wives.

(for those not aware, it is a huge inside joke among the mormon community that we all have many wives. The practice is not sanctioned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In fact, even "sympathizing" with a polygamist sect if grounds to lose your privilege to enter a Mormon temple.

There are fringe groups whose ancestors were LDS who still practice polygamy. They are a small minority of the population in the mountain west. Unfortunately, they are the ones usually on the news.

Oh, and I only have one wife, and it will stay that way.)

Well,

I probably don't know what I am talking about, if you doubt it ask my wife.

I only studied mathematics for 8 years but every mathematics professor and student I ever heard say the word said pulligunul all run together with the accent on the ig

But the root was Pollygun.

I DO wish you hadn't asked that question. I never gave it a thought before now but a polygon is a geometric shape consisting of three or more STRAIGHT sides.

That rifling method has NO straight sides. It is not a polygon. It is not a polygonal shape.

Conventional rifling has at least two and in some cases three straight sides. Conventional rifling is more polygonal than polygonal rifling.

my dictionary interpretation,,,,,pah-league-ah-nahl

I DO wish you hadn't asked that question. I never gave it a thought before now but a polygon is a geometric shape consisting of three or more STRAIGHT sides.

True, but here is also a second definition,,,": a closed figure on a sphere bounded by arcs of great circles."
Now if I read that right and being no mathematician, I'm guessing here,,,,,but if you draw a imaginary line between the high points or peaks, you have a polygon,,,correct??? Hence polygonal rifled or rifling, resulting from rounded peaks and valleys configured in a circle.

That rifling method has NO straight sides. It is not a polygon. It is not a polygonal shape.

Conventional rifling has at least two and in some cases three straight sides. Conventional rifling is more polygonal than polygonal rifling.

I found it easier to refer to it as "poly rifling".

This reminds me of my visit to the FN booth at the last NRA convention here in Phoenix. My buddy a totally blind Viet Nam vet was determined to get the correct pronunciation for Fabrique National. Everyone in the FN booth he asked all smiled and said it a bit different. One good natured FN rep said "now thats not a fair question, I'm from South Carolina".

There are fringe groups whose ancestors were LDS who still practice polygamy. They are a small minority of the population in the mountain west. Unfortunately, they are the ones usually on the news.

I wouldn't mind belonging to one of those fringe groups. Have a wife casting, one sizing, one loading and a couple more capable of earning a few G's annually, preferably as CEO of a lead mining corporation.

I could spend all my time at the range and at the gun shop spending my wife's earnings.

Ha, both good points. My wife told me years ago because of my Mormon heritage that if I wanted more than one wife, she would be happy to choose them for me. She from time to time points out a candidate. You'll have to believe me, they are not the kind you or at least I would choose. Oh, well.
As to your second point, I know you are an Aussie, so that is a little different, but the same principle applies. Years ago I jokingly asked an Englishman who was yammering on, if he could please speak English. He kinda went crazy on me, hehe.
