I am hearing that the extended use of cast boolits in supressed guns can cause issues with the suppressor.
Anyone have any experience with or any knowledge of this?....dale

I have heard of this, and in my VERY limited experience, it has not caused me any problems YET. Our Colt SBR/FA/SUPP has had maybe 1000 rounds run through it FA with the suppressor attached and we have not noticed any problems so far. Of course, the sig mosquitos are fired with cast suppressed and no problems with them, same with the Typewriter. Never tried any from the MP-5.

I have some experience with Sionic suppressors on 9mms, .45 ACPs and .308Ws. Alot depends on the lube used, the alloy, whether GC'd or not and the velocity and rate of spin. If you ever shot a "comp" handgun you know that powder residue, lube residue and lead can and do build up inside the comps expansion chambers. It is the same with a suppressor. If the suppressor is one that can be dissassembled readily and cleaned then there's not much of a problem if done regularly, especially with slower twist 9mm and .45 ACPs.

However on faster twist rifles such as the 10 - 12" twist .308Ws the residue build up can happen quickly and hinder disassembly for cleaning. This can be mitigated by using GC'd bullets and using a harder lube that does not spin off until the bullet is clear of the suppressor.....mostly.

seems like the lube could build up there, smoke like crazy, and maybe catch fire.

Any suppressor you have that you shoot either 22LR or cast bullets thru must be cleanable as not only powder but lube and lead fouling will be left in the suppressor.
recommend at least every 500 rounds and I leave some Nevr-sez on any threads upon reassembly. If you have a STEEL suppressor that is sealed you can use caustic soaking method of cleaning (The DIP) but it makes highly toxic lead solution that must be disposed of properly. :holysheep

Best to only use lead in can's that come apart for cleaning.

Experience with Full auto MAC and UZI with AWC Mk9 in 9mm and 45 auto
30 cal AAC Cyclone sealed can on assorted hosts
9mm and 22 LR cans on assorted hosts.

You might google cleaning suppressors

My NZ made suppressors can be stripped for cleaning. The .32-20 only ever shoots cast and never had a problem.

It may help if I was more specific.
A buddy is having a 300 Blackout built with a 9" suppressed barrel on an AR upper.
He wants me to cast the NOE 247 gr boolit and see if it was feasable to use it in his gun.
I hope this will make the question a liitle more answerable.
I just talk to him and he is not sure if the supressor can be taken apart.
He says he will talk to the manufacturer.
Thanks for your help....dale

Dale, When you say 9" suppressed barrel are we talking intregal (ie the suppressor goes back all the way over the ported barrel with the gas tube inside the silencer?) or screw on can in front of a 9" barrel?

And as I said before if it's a sealed unit made out of stainless then DIP it
- if Aluminum then must NOT be a sealed unit so can be cleaned
- And don't try to use Sonic cleaner on Aluminum - eats 'em up.

Have your friend visit suppressor forum like

Don't you say to him yeah no problem then after several hundred cast round have him come yelling at you, that you said it was alright and suppressor maker voided warrenty and he can't get the lead out. :groner:

Artful, He says it is integral, not screwed on.
The gas tube is inside the silencer.
Thanks for the links....dale

My gunsmith "Test drove" my YHM Cobra II 9mm suppressor on my 11.3" AR-pistol 300 Blk when it arrived (I am waiting on the ATF to return my paperwork) and I lost about 30fps.

ArtS recommended the YHM, since I could make use of it on both my 9mm firearms and the 30 as long as I stayed subsonic. Thank You Art!

The YHM can easily be disassembled to clean, and 30 minutes in a sonic cleaner has all the parts looking shiny new again.

Dale, I have a 300 BO with an Integral Can and I'm planning on picking up the 247gr NOE Mould with a plain base. It should be fine if the bullet is sized for the barrel and your using the correct lube and alloy. I've seen some pretty leaded up cans, but those are usually from bad loads (e.g. undersized bullets, too hard alloy, not using gas checks on supersonic loads). I have a Silent Destroyer .44 mag that I shoot cast bullets in all the time without any issues.
