Three guys from my office were out in the woods when they came across some tracks.

The first looked at them and said "huh, deer tracks, see those everywhere"

The second says "Those are too big for deer, probably Moose"

The third says "Nope, too small for Moose and too big for deer, definitely Elk tracks".

Just then the train came through and killed all three of them while they were debating it.

(oh and legitimate answer - squirrel )

yea I thought the one in question was a squirrel

did a 3.5 mile hike up from 2000 ft elevation to 3750 ft. Don't have the stamina I used to but it was still great being out there

I envy you having a place to hunt shoeshoe hares!

Yeah, that would be quite a hike, but with a flintlock in that light snow it would be a treat.:bigsmyl2:

I gotta go with shotman on the ones in question (on the left)...I'd bet money they were coons. 5 distinct 'fingers' which all point in the same direction with the front foot not showing what would be the heel of our hand. Possums have the fifth digit cocked way off to the side and squirrels don't usually show that much 'palm' or fingers that are that distinct.

I'm not the oldest guy out in the woods, but I'd just about stake my outdoorsman/Eagle scout/science teacher rep on it. (Watch, I'll be completely wrong!)

Oh, man, lemme tell ya! If a Mountain Wampus gets hold of ya', best thing to do is give your soul to Jesus and your heart to this country 'cause the rest of your butt is his! It don't matter what you're wearin' or carryin', NOBODY survives a Mountain Wampus attack.

Right is a Snowshoe, I've put plenty in the pot. Left is the tree rat whatever color, they taste the same and leave a similar track.

The question would be if it was a high or low mountain wumpus! The high mountain subspecies were driven up by the tree huggers, and are a bit smaller due to limited food supply at higher altitude. Think last scientific report estimated average weight to be about 36lb. The low mountain species having a better food supply run in excess of 80lb, and have sort of a green colored coat in summer and chartruse in the winter.

I was thinking you had a couple impact areas of LLama spit... but at closer observation it was noted there was no green smudge.
