What's your favorite caliber for using this powder ?

I was at the gunshop today, and seen a jug of PB
I've never seen it before, I asked the owner,
what's this typically used for ?
He said, Pistol and shot gun.
I just had to buy a jug, I haven't researched it yet,
to know which caliber I will try first,
So I thought I'd ask for favorites,
thanks,
Jon

PS: I thought PB might stand for plain base :) is that just dreaming or what ?

PB and GreenDot are kissing cousins. PB is single base with smaller granules. GreenDot is double based, say 15 percent nitro minimum (I forgot, really), with larger and flat granules. Start with the one which takes up more room in the case of choice. Given the choice, that means use GreenDot for the big cases. ... felix

PB works well in the .45 ACP for both target loads and "full house" loads.

20-Guage and 38 popcorn... PB stands for Porous Base - it bulks up pretty good.

I have always thought PB burned dirty but bought it for 20 ga. game loads and used it in .38 special loads only. It was dirty in both I need to use it up if you find a decent load for 45 acp let me know.

More to the point I should check my older manuals and see what they have for loads a pound goes a long way in pistol loads.

I have used it in the 9mm. I had a friend once that used only PB in his 12ga 1 1/8oz trap loads.

PB is the sole survivor of what was intended to be an entire line of propellants. The concept was to have a generic powder kernel that was porous, and to add the various inhibitors and additives to tailor burn rate, flash and other characteristics to the "sponge-like" kernels as needed.

It can be thought of as a second-generation powder: It's newer than such greybeards as Bullseye and Unique, but not nearly as sophisticated as almost any other powder we have today. It is still a good powder, and they must sell enough of it to keep it in production, but it is a quite unappreciated or unknown by many.

I use it in my Krag. 13grs with 314299 (200grs). I put 13 rounds in a target at 100 yards, about 2 1/2" group with iron sights. Doesn't seem to be any dirtier than any other powder I use. It does measure better than alot of other powders.

I used it in my shotguns: it worked well in 12, 20 and 28 gauge so it was nice having only one powder for the three. In the shotgun it is one of the cleanest powders going. The barrel would look unfired, and pressures were fairly low in the 12 and 20. I quit using it due to it's expense, and availability (at one time) was somewhat spotty.

Very consistent at lower pressures, burns very clean, easy to ignite, bulky, very good in my subsonic .308 Win M118 bullet loads.
1 MOA

Wouldn't doubt it is the powder that precedes the development of Trail Boss as PB has similar burn rate (energy) just not as bulky as TB.

Used it for handicap loads in trap and 2nd shot on doubles. Clean burning and meters well.

I've loaded a lot of .38 special plinking loads with PB (which, as mentioned , stands for Porous Base). Meters well and performs conssitently but it is a little pricier than Alliant or Accurate products.

Just finished loading 1100 + 40 S&W. 125 gr sintered copper training bullet from IMI, over 5.3 PB. Straight out of the Hodgden online data base. i date the powder cans, this was from 1976, price tag was $3.45/ lb. Meters good, burns clean, low recoil, cases land right beside you. Of course, a 125 gr bullet going 1100 fps or so, we have just reinvented the 9x19 Luger.
